  1. I have a Lite-on 451S in An External Closure USB2.0
I am having a problem writing dvds with the drive. When recording large amounts of data to the DVD it will frequently abort in the middle or near the end saying that the drive is not responding or that data cannot be written to the DVD.
I thought that it might be a disc problem as well - and it still may be - but I have also tried copying my DVD's onto the hard-drive, but the drive seems to stop responding part way through on more than one disc. I have used quite a few different packages such as dvd decoder but without success. I am trying to backup my dvd collection, but without success.

I have only used the DVD-RW disc which came with the drive as I don't want to waste expensive DVD-R's if they fail.

I will try using a DVD-R and other software programs, its just the drive not responding when reading, and when writing seems more than a coincidence. By the way I am on XP, with 128MB RAM, 1000MHZ processor, and using a PC Card for the USB2 port.

    Hope someone can help

    Thanks

the problem maybe that your drive needs a firmware update
    use this link http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
as i dont know the make of drive you have you will have to ssearch the site and obtain the latest firmware for your device
once dowload and apply to your drive this will update the drive to work with more types of media that is out there now

I MUST WARN YOU THAT INSTALLING THE UPDATE INCORRECTLY CAN DAMAGE YOUR DRIVE BUT IF DONE CORRECTLY OFTEN SOLVES THE PROBLEMS YOU SEEM TO BE HAVING

ALSO APPLY THE FIRMWARE UPDATE WILL INVALIDATE ANY WARRENTY YOU MIGHT HAVE ON THE DRIVE
    GOOD LUCK
    HOPE THIS HELPS

Why would updating the firmware (that u get from the manufacturer's website)....invalidate the warranty? This is the first time I've heard that.
