    ssjneo,

I would just like to say this much on your decision (I've ben there)-. . .

Consider this, if you get the dvc I usb, you'll only have the ability to
cap in MPEG1 - THATS IT!!!
Mark my word on this. . . You'll be wanting to try the hardware MPEG2
sooner or later. . . after you grown tired of the VCD blocks. Don't get
me wrong. But, IMO, after the first few model (based on some posters
response to there experience), they JIMMied the quality settings/driver
and now, well, I leave that up to you.
If you want a taste of GOOD quality caps, do a search of SRACER's
postings. I don't remember the address of one of his sample clips
he had posted. It was a nice cap. Short, but nice.

Above that, I haven't ben able to cap close to his quality, though I did
    fool myself for a while.
I have a history of capture cards. Done just tried about every one. (almost)

If you want to try your hand on capturing to AVI and then encoding,
go for the Wintv GO card or the Pinnacle DC10+ (I have)
    * Wintv GO is just an AVI capture card
    * DC10+ is an AVI capture card but has hardware MJPEG chip (cpu % @ 15)
quality is good, except for it's 16-253 color range vs. 0-255 range of most
    other cards.
You can see some sample clips I've done so far with the DC10 and Wintv cards,
just look way below, for link

If you still want to give the dvc I usb a try, then go for it!
You can always bring it back. And, I'm shore SRACER and others that
met with GOOD success will be happy to share there experience/tips with
    you here or via e-mail.

Currently, I have the PVR usb capture card. It does both VCD (mpeg1/2)
hardware. But, the VCD really sucks BIG time!! So, maybe the dvc will
IMO produce better quality. That's if you're ONLY interested in VCD.
Earlier on, I was merely saying that you will grow out of it. But, as a newbie,
that is, if you are, then you wont really notice too much. You sware that
    it the best quality ever.

Oh, and don't forget, there ARE other devices out there besides the
    DVC and PVR

Good luck in your quest. . . .or DVC I

  5. I am pretty sure I will just want to encode in vcd. But if I ever wanted to do svcd could I just convert it with virtual dub?

...you say there are other devices, are there any you would like to recommend to me?

My Dazzle capture clips are becoming world famous!
I have had my DVC for nearly 2 years and have had GREAT success with it. Using factory defaults for VideoCD, I've not only created high quality VideoCDs, but I've saved 100's of hours in re-encoding time.

But, even though I've had excellent results, I can't really recommend a DVC to anyone now. I think that they must've tweaked the hardware, or the software, or both... because no one who recently purchased a DVC has been able to attain captures near the quality that I have been able to.

As for MPEG1 only, until DVD writers come way down in price, MPEG1 and VCDs will be the only viable consumer digital video CD format for quite a while. It makes more sense to buy an MPEG1 capture device now and take full advantage of it...and later on, when DVD recorders are more affordable, upgrade to an MPEG2 capture device..which by then should be of higher quality than the current crop of devices.

    ssjneo,

First off, Sorry if I'm confusing you. I wasn't trying to do that, if I came out
    like that.

Anyways, if it's at all possible for you, try and spend some time downloading
some sample clips from this site, and judge what the quality is like. This may
help you with your decision making.
Here, I'll save you the trouble of navigating:
A - Tools plus other software
    B - SVCD NTSC
    C - VCD NTSC
    D - WinTV PVR Samples
E - DC10+ MY own Samples from my web site, encludes (some Hauppauge too)

See what you think about the above.
Also, you might wana decide how you want to proceed with your captured clips.
A - do you want to encode your clips via AVI files (tmpg or CCE), (Hours to encode)
B - do you want to cap and w/ min. cutting, burn straight to VCD (Min. time if any)

    A) will give you BEST quality
    B) will give you moderate quality, but will save your sanity from the encoding time.

To find out more about other capture devices, just click the Search button on top or,
allright, here, click this, and do a search on "Capture Cards" and just SPEND the time
to read through all the posts your see.

So, have a look at this scale:
Basically this is the GOAL rage: (1 - 5)
1 - I don't care. just want to fit more on cd - (screw quality) (VCD)
2 - I Don't care. just want to fit more on cd - (quality if i can get it) (VCD)
3 - I care, but still want to fit more on cd - (but with quality too) (VCD/SVCD)
    4 - I want good quality! - (don't mind the multi cd's) (VCD/SVCD)
    5 - Great Quality - (don't mind the multi cd's) (SVCDs)

Your's would probably fall in the 1 or 2 range, maybe 3.
Just in case you wanna know, mine in 5.

    Well, hope this helps!
    Good luck in your decision!

    Is this your card?
    http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=340400&search=DC10&ut=18fc8b4afb8ff383
What file type does that card encode to? Whatever it is will I be able to edit it or encode it to something else then edit it? Will I be able to make it divx or mpeg?

    ssjneo,

Yes, this is my card. I got it at Circuit City for $59
You could shop around and see if this store is around you.
I think/pretty sure it was on sale (or was it a clearance item)

ssjneo, have you tried and any of my DC10 Samples yet?
There were issues in D/L them, but I think they all stopped. You should
be able to D/L them now, using my method, posted at my web site.
If you you want to see other clips samples that you want to see will look
like (quality'wise), just ask, and I'll see if I can capture it and encode it and
finally, post it at my web site. Case you wanna see what the quality is like.
You know,. . . you may wanna see what the "Soaps" look like, or cartoons
loook like, or "scifi's Farscape", etc. Just ask, and I will see what I can
do. I might be willing to. K?

I'm in the process of getting NEWer sample up there (more appealing looking)
maybe, but I'm also thinking of a better layout of the site. I've ben looking
for better web site apps, but I can't seem to find one that does FRAMES, let
alone tables. The news section be becoming too traffic'y looking and I want
to clean it up. Well, I'll figure it all out sooner or later. I in the learning stage.

Have you done any research (other then reading these posts here on this board)
at other web sites or forums? Don't just read here. But. . . this is the place
    IMO, for good infomation.

I have other ideas in mind to include on my web site, so you may want to check
it out from time to time (or often)

I'm also still looking for storage sites or something for my clips.
Currently, I only have two, and there both Yahoo Breifcase, limited to 30mb ea.

Anywas, if you do decide to go and try out the DC10, great. But, if you end up not
liking it, you can always return it and try another card out.

Oh, again, the file type that this card does is only AVI (MJPEG) remember?
You encode to mpeg1/2 with TMPGenc or CCE. I don't know ANYthing about DivX stuff.
So, sorry about that. I can't help you there. But, this is the place to be for that
and more. Just click on the above Search button and type in DivX, or go to your left
    and read on.
But, you should be able to make MPEGs and/or DivX stuff with this card. Just don't go
thinking that this card WILL MAKE it directly, as in real-time - it doesn't!!
It captures to AVI, and then, you have to encode it to something, ie, MPEG or DivX.
And, before I leave. . . if you want to EDIT the AVI first, before you encode to your
MPEG or DivX, you can use VirtualDub and cut out or join part of your captured AVI
file(s) and then encode. This is the BEST route to go for editing AVI files.

So, wheather you purchase the DC10, Hauppuge Wintv, PVR/ ATI awi, etc., I hope
your experience is easy and enjoyable. Good luck!!

I have a DVC 1, and I'll tell you, it caps good. I cap though at 3000 x 224 (the highest it is capable of, then reencode to VCD using TMPG). This is necessary due to capping straight into their VCD template is not good enough quality. So if you do have the drive space, I'd simply get an analog cap card (Hauppage WinTV, etc) and then re-encode. I have no gripes on it aside from that. Enjoy

You have ventured into an area i know a little more about. As for disk space for your clips, check this page:
    http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Applications/Virtual...s/Directories/
It has many links to different directories with places to host your clips.
For your other problem you could try to learn html which is not very difficult, tutorial here: http://www.pagetutor.com , or you could try this program I found at download.com http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-4003353-100-1422921.html?tag=st.dl.4003353-106-1....st-5-4.1422921 , seems pretty easy to use. Thanks for all your help I think I have finally made my decision on the dc10.

    ssjneo,

    Thanks for YOUR help.
What I'm looking for is the ability to FRAMES and also Tables.

But, I really want the FRAMES to be easy! I know HTML, ben doing
for years (well, almost) But, I'm lazy, and don't want to code anymore!
I've ben doing BASIC/DESLPHI/PASCAL for years. I still use DELPHI,
    though.

Anyways, I'm looking for a WYSIWYG type apps that works with FRAMES.
That's what I'm really looking for! I don't wanna see all this TAG stuff.
Please, not TAGS and stuff like that.

So far, I've downloaded a bunch of stuff (hours worth of D/L) but so far,
nothing on assecptable FRAMES design. I know they exists, because
a couple of years ago, I was doing a web site for someone, and I did
find a D/L app which included FRAMES WYSIWYG, and not a seporate
app just for FRAMES. It was very easy. But, it was a one time shot
and I long since done away with the app. Don't know the name, don't
know the site, and dont know anything of this app I had, but I can't
find a single one that has that same ability, wiouth resorting to TAGs
and stuff. It like MS Word. I tell people at work, how can you work
like that. . .with your codes turned on? I can't see straight with my
codes turned on. And now, you wanna have me do the same again,
    in HTML? You're crazy! he, he. . . . .

But, if you find any apps like that great - throw them my way.
I really need it. And, my web site doesn't too!
I wanna put the NEWs section in it's own page. I wanna put like a
menu on the left, and when you click on a button or text link, the
window on the right refreshes with the web page displayed but not
scrolling or redisplaying the whole page. Something like that! He, he. . .

I guess I could do it in HTML (hard coded, that is) but I don't, and will
    NOT do it like that!!

Anyways, thank you and everyone else for that matter!

  13. I don't see what ur big problem with frames is. A frames layout is really easy. You have done all this programing but you act so scared to do some simple frames. Did that app I showed you deal with code?

    ssjneo,

    NOP!

Sorry, but the page you sent me stated that it was geared for those who
prefer NOT to for coding in html. At least that was how I read it.
It was for HTML coders. I don't want to code in html - at bare minimum
would I, like if I have to insert a TAG or something.
But, navigating through those <framages/> etc. for example, and knowing
where to start here or there, or what line - forget it!

I use Netscape's Composer to do my table work. If it worent for the
wysiwyg editing of table, I don't know what I'd do. Now, I need it for FRAMES
too, but Composer doesn't have this support. You can't even do it in
composer, unless you go into code view. NO THANKS!! I need to do
quick edits. If I have to make a quick insert of a new button or add anew
link or something like swap fields or button or text around, I need to do
it quick and fast and dirty, and that's that. Not have to navigate through
all those tags and <> </> and whatnot.

Sorry, but I really do need wysiwyg editing. Please, no more code windows.
That's why I didn't go further with your link. It said, and here's the quote...
(I just prettied it up a bit) :
    ---------------------------
1ST page 2000 offers one of the best software packages
I have ever seen for HTML programming, I have used many
programs including Dreamweaver, Frontpage 2000 and
homesite, but all of these because of their WYSIWIG
interface take you away from the root of the website,
the coding, due to 1st page 2000's concentration on
coding, websites look as complex or as simple as you
want to make them, there are no times when you have to
check back on what HTML was added by the software as
there is no extra HTML added, not unless you want there
to be. The simple brunt of it is if you want a
Professional piece of software for free, that won't
alter or corrupt your programming, 1st page 2000 is the
    one to get, simple.
    ---------------------------

That's why I didn't go further. Sorry, but thanks for the suggestions.
Maybe you know of a WYSIWYG?????

    Tanx!

    ssjneo,

Thanks for the links for Storage sites.
Unfortunatley, I'm soo tired of looking at FREE
but not really being FREE, or being stumped with
limitations. I've pretty much exhausted myself with
this issue, and the FRAMES as well. I'm tired.
And, when they say FREE, don't believe it!!
There are always strings attached, as I have found
out through all the siftings I just finished doing.

What I'm looking for is 50MB here, 50MB there
    or more MB's.
I also need the flexibility to be able to provide people
with direct LINKS to my files. Not have them to sign
in or use cripling logins or apps to get to my files.
too much stone-walling going around. I just want
my fellow visitors to have as pleasant a visit as posible.
I want them coming back for more!!

The only place that has ben faithful and honest, is
Yahoo Briefcase!! I have two. I can't have any more
than that. That's 60MB total, so far! But, I need more
    space!!

Thank you for your efforts though!
