  1. alright i'm posting this question after looking around and still having no luck. unfortunately I have a dvd+r burner on my dell notebook, i definitely wish it was dvd-r, but anyhow
i've spent so much time and money trying to find dvd+r media that will work with apex dvd players.

so i'm looking for suggestions on dvd+r media

from people's experience what seems to work best.

    i just bought a 50pk of ritek dvd+r, tried a few movies
    these dont work
also tried compusa dvd+r, not a lot of luck either
tdk dvd+r not a lot of luck either

i basically haven't found anything to work consistently and thats what I'm looking for, good dvd+r media that works on a CONSISTENT basis

    thanks in advance

What authoring and burning programs are you using? That could be the problem and not the media. I have 2 APEX 1500's and DVD+R media works fine on them. I use IMATION (RICOH) 4X spd DVD+R discs that can burn @8x in my plextor 708a burner. I use DVD DECRYPTER, DVD SHRINK, NERO BURN or IMG TOOL BURN.

Do you know who is the manufacturer of your dvd burner in your DELL notebook? If you can find out who the manufacturer is then they may have a compatibility media chart or something. They could tell you what brands of DVD+R media to use.

I thought Apex DVD players would play anything you throw at it.
I was in the same boat as you for the last month or so. I also have a +R only burner (TDK 420n) and I was very upset when I found that my Panasonic Rv-32 does not like +R. It's so frustrating to read right here on this site about guys that have no problems with their Rv-32's playing +R.

So a couple of days ago when I saw the Daewoo P480 at Costco for $49 I figured what the hell. It doesn't say it will play +R on the box or manual, but it works great! No, more then great, fantastic! I've tested it with Imation and Memorex 4x media. Both brands are RICOHJPNR01 tested with DVDinfo Pro. The DVD's load fast, and the players chapter seek time is twice as fast as my old player. On top of that it's progressive scan, plays my MP3's great, and it loads jpg's straight off a CD-R. It even allows you to rotate the pictures, zoom up to 4x, and pick what kind of transition to use between pictures.
I guess my point is for $50 you can get a DVD player that will do the job and then some.

As for media (and I've done a lot of homework on this topic) I say stick with RICOHJPNR01, MMC or Ritek (even through your player does not like them) the overwhelming majority here, say the Ritek is the very best.

As for media what other brands have you tried? It's not so important to go with a brand, but who makes them. I read here many, many times that TDK was a great brand. Not. I bought a 25 pack at CompUSA that where CMC (bad) I took them back. I then found some Memorex in a 25 pack (with gray bottom spindles) at Staples this week for $24.99. I bought two packs. So with the five pack of Imation that I bought this week for $1.99 at Office Max I should be OK for awhile.
It's a crap shoot when you're trying to find the good stuff. Sometimes the gray vs. black spindles trick works, sometimes not. Gray is RICOHJPNR01 and black is CMC. It is true in some cases, but I've also read that guys are now getting good media that is black. But I haven't read anywhere that anyone has gotten CMC disc's with a gray spindle.

Anyway good luck! You'll get it figured out, don't worry!

  4. thanks for the info
    but I'm giving up
I decided to purchase a I/O Magic dvd +/- dvdr burner
Its on sale now, 150 plus 50 in rebates
then i will send this dvd+r media back and exchange it for dvd-r ritek media

i'm hoping this will take care of the issue

anyone have this dvd burner, the i/o magic dvd+/- dvdr?
    if so, any problems?
