  1. Hope someone can help me with these problems........

1 ) Whenever I capture anything ( TV / Composite ) i get crackly audio. I`ve got a Soundblaster Live 1024 Player. I`ve tried using the AUX input on the soundcard ( directly from the output on the internal part of the AIW card ). I`ve also tried the putting the audio straight into the Line In direclty from the source and also feeding it through the AIW card and putting the output on the rear of the AIW into the line in. The audio is fine when listening to the source but when listening to the captured file there is lots of background crackle on the audio. I`m using ATI AIW Rage Pro 128, SB Live 1024 Player and MMC 7.1 with the latest ATI display drivers on Win 98 SE.Can anyone help ?
2 ) I am trying to use Virtualdub just as an experiment to capture but it comes up with the error "No Capture Driver available" even though i have installed the latest ATI drivers. Any help appreciated

  2. This may sound stupid, but have you tried adujusting your record volume levels? When I first got my card (ATI AIW 128) It did the same thing, I could watch tv fine but if I tried to capture the sound was bad. When I adjusted the record volume down it worked fine.

    Or

it could be that ATI just doesn't really play well with Soundblasters.....But try adjusting the level.

  3. Ok, i`ll try adjusting the recording levels tonight.

I`v found a patch that converts the WDM to VFW commands ( or something like that ) and now no longer get the no capture driver message.

  4. Hey, had the same problem. What you might want to do is lower the volume on the Line input to your computer. Now, it may not sound so good on your speakers, but when I burn it and play in on my dvd player it sounds much better. Mine is very low, almost between the 2nd and 3rd line. This is so damn cryptic, sorry.

  5. Hi Cheesemeister2000,

Where could you found a patch that converts the WDM to VFW commands?

    Thanks!

  6. Just out of curiosity, do you have a VIA Chipset motherboard?? SB Live 1024 cards DON'T WORK with them at all! They produce popping and crackling all over the audio on both record and playback. After 3 years Creative Labs has finally admitted to it!!

Now if we could just get ATI to do the same ...........

  7. I can`t remember the site i got the mapper off ! I`ll check my history tonight.

I do have an ABit KT7A Motherboard with a VIA chipset.
The Soundblaster 1024 works fine recording from radio / vinyl using the line in with recording at full volume.
It also works fine playing back MP3`s. Perhaps it`s just the Aux input that needs to be recorded at a lower volume.

Instead of trying to lower the input volume level, try lowering the output volume level. Sometimes you can get feedback from the two of them being too high. This may account for the crackling and popping sounds.

  11. I`ve now tried lowering the line in recording level and master volume output to 25% ( both ) then right the way down to 3% ( both ). Still getting the crackle and pops. I`ve also lowered the recodring volume to 3%.
Is there a fix for this problem yet as someone mentioned earlier that VIA and Creative are aware of this problem.
Or is it time I bought myself a new soundcard. If so, is it just the "Live" series of Creative cards or all crative cards ? any recomendations as to what to go for ?
