  1. Im trying to burn a VCD that will work on the Samsung M-101(i know its not VCD compatible). I have a generic HP CD-RW drive that came with the computer which was made in 2000. I'm burning with Nero 5.5 and so far nothing is working. Does downloading any Firmware help my problem? Is there anything else i could do and i have Windows ME. I also want to know if it would help if i bought a TDK CDRW drive? Its the one that has the blue disk tray. Please, I appreciate any help. THANKS

  3. do not go buy another cd burner because the hp should do the trick.. how are you burning the vcd??? what are you using to encode the vcd file (mpeg).. usually the slower the burn the better the quality

  4. I am using the VCD Burner on Nero. I think it is the 6.0 version or 5.5. I burned it at 1x. I use Windows ME. The CD-RW drive works, but has a top speed of 4x. Even though I've been following instructions sad, I have had no success. I'm burning my VCDs with Sony CD-Rs(80 min., 700 MB). What can I do to fix it. BTW, I have a non-working CD-ROM drive right under it. Might it cause any problems?

  5. i would burn it at 2x or 4x..sometimes a real low speed causes problems...now is nero reencoding it?? or just burning it?? You do not want it to reencode.. once burnt, look at it on your computer and see if it created the folders...in one of the folders (mpeg) you should have a file in there that is your movie.. try runninig it on the computer, you will need windows media player or better yet power dvd or win dvd. then if doesn't automatically load up, then you will need to go to that mpeg folder and open the file manually..also, you never said about the file you are converting to vcd...what is it??

  6. Your player is VCD compatible, the problem is that it is not CDR or CDRW compatible. So whatever you do it will not read any discs you burn no matter what you burn them with or what format you burn them as, as the player cannot read the media you are burning to. The only VCD's that this machine will play are original pressed ones, it will not play any burned CD's.

It would appear however that this player will read DVD-R, so you could buy yourself a DVD burner and burn your mpegs to DVD and watch them on this player, but it would be cheaper to just go out an buy another DVD player that reads CDR's.

  7. Yes, i think Nero is reencoding from MPEG 2 to MPEG 1. Is that considered reencoding? If not, then that's all the reencoding. It's a skate video my brother wanted to burn to play. Also, I opened the CD, and it didn't play automatically. I went to the CD, and it had a folder called "MPEGAV" with a .dat file in it. But when I went to play it in Windows Media Player, it played perfectly. The only problem was no advancing to other parts of it. That one worked. But when playing it in the DVD player, it didn't work. Is there anything else to do?

  8. It's a bit of a long shot, but have you actually tried a CD-RW ?

They sometimes work where CD-R's have failed. The brand might be an issue, though - I see above the remark that it is not CD-RW compatible, but I have a player that says it won't play CD-R's but type 8 dyes work perfectly in it, as do MOST CD-RW's... but certainly not all.

As I say, it's a long shot, but if you must get this old dog of a player learning a new trick, what's the cost of a blank ?

  9. obviously not Craig! listen to what he's telling you. Buy a DVD burner, you can pick them up for as little as £60 maybe less now and burn you mpegs to DVD with something like Tmpgenc Dvd author. You can fit about 5 vcds on a DVD-R maybe more maybe less depending on size.

  10. well, if it is playing in your pc, then it becomes an issue with the way you are encoding/burning. What you need to find out is what the original file?? mpeg2, mpeg1,avi, etc. What I would suggest is reencoding it with tmpenc to mpeg1 (vcd), then burn it with nero (but not reencode it). You can go to this site http://entiendo.gotnet.net to see how to use tmpenc.

  11. Jesus, how many more times, it has got nothing to do with the way he is encoding or burning, it is all down to the fact that his DVD player WILL NOT PLAY CDR OR CDRW

  14. Yeah, i read what you said Craig. And youre right. But its just that i was reading all these reviews about the m-101 and they were talking about their dvd player playing VCD's successfully. And right now, im not really thinking about buying a new player so i was just asking if theres any different methods you could do for the VCD's to work. Thank You everyone.
