Hi all, i've done a quick search but i can't seem to find an answer 4 this problem i am getting. I've been having problems backing up a few dvd's (couple of disney's) and what is strange is that i am using the exact same methods as i do for all other dvd's which copy fine. i'm using dvd decryptor to rip full dvd onto hard drive, then using elby clonedvd 2 compress ( not taking off any chapters 'cos disney ones i tried are small enough). Once compressed i'm using nero to burn. All versions of sofware are newest ones.
The problem i'm getting is that when i insert dvd into any player it starts to load but then stops without going to menu. i am not getting any error messages throughout the process. in windows media player it displays all chapters on right hand side and i can select any of them and it plays fine (so i know the film has burned correctly) but it will not automatically go to menu screen like all other dvd's i have done. i really dont know what else to do other than take off all menu support and just have main film on disk, which i dont really want to do.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rich

Have you tried DVD Shrink? Most people swear by it. Do a full back-up or Noki's method works great for just menu's.

Are you trying to preserve all the menus and extras?
I backed up Nemo for a colleague so her children don't end up scratching the original. Like most DismalŪ (deliberate mispelling) discs it was absolutely choc full of additional crap. All the kids wanted to see was the movie so reauthored the disc to have only the main feature.
I tried with CloneDVD - the disc had chapter problems causing the playback to be halted part way thru the movie, I tried with DVD Shrink - same problems. I then tried with Nero Recode and it worked though this may be because at the time I had switched over to using Ritek G04 blanks.
So it's possible that CloneDVD and DVD Shrink can't cope with all the extra junk that's on the disc as well as Nero Recode can. Or possibly the blank media you are using is not good enough.
Or I could be completely wrong, I reserve that right -
All I know is Shrink so I can't speak for other software. I don't know why a full backup didn't work. It should work like the original-allbeit compressed a bit. All I can suggest is look at one of the guides on this site to make sure you didn't miss anything.
Have you tried re-author mode for just the movie only? This will get rid of all the FBI stuff (and menus). The Noki method won't work if the menus are in a different title set than the main movie. In your ear with a can of beer, Up your nose with a rubber hose.

I don't know why you have to rip with dvd decrypter, then use Clonedvd, then burn with Nero.
Just install AnyDVD/put movie in drive/rip with Clonedvd (removing extras if required)/place blank in burner/ burn using Clonedvd.
As Clonedvd will default to remove menus if you edit, are you sure you are retaining menus?"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. i had that problem with some disneys also start to play and then it would freeze. i tried dvd shrink dvd2one to name a few and still had the same problem. so what i ended up doing was ripping the file in ifo mode so i could get a m2v and ac3 file then i loaded those up into ifoedit to reauthor. only thing that did was remove the chapter list. then i burned with nero and it played just fine. so i guess it was hanging on a chapter, if it freezes with you before you even get to the menu i doubt there are any chapter points before the menu. anyways thought that might help.
