    Could someone give me an idea of what movie formats are smaller than .mpeg (1)? Are there any? I have a .mpeg movie file and would like to make it smaller, as small as possible. What program could I use?

    Divx or Xvid are compression types used in avi files and they can make the video much smaller than an mpeg while still keeping quality. You will need to install those codecs on your system. Virtualdub-mod can open and convert mpegs to avi, look up mpeg to avi in the guides section.
