I compressed "The English Patient" with DVD2One. While skipping through the movie on PowerDVD, I noticed Chapter 14 was unusually blocky with digital artifacts that weren't present in the original. It was bad enough, I decided to give Nero Recode 2 a try since my dad told me he likes its UI better than DVD2One.
Where there was fine graininess or an appearance of dithering in the original, DVD2One turned it into large digital blocks of a solid color. Recode 2 seems much closer to the original, preserving more of the original graininess. It's a night and day difference, even my wife who does not have an eye for detail could easily see the strange artifacts DVD2One created.
I was very surprised, to say the least, because I used to swear by DVD2One. Anyone else see similar results?

I haven't used DVD2One, but I've been very pleased with the results from Nero Recode. I was talking to my brother earlier today and he also said he couldn't tell the difference between the original or back-ups on DVD's made with Nero Recode.....
