  1. i'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this.

i have an audio clip on my md player recorded with a mic that i want to transfer to my comp. the md player came with sonicstage, but it only allows me to check-out files from my comp to the md player, not the other way. i was wondering if there's other programs that'll allow me or if i can use a stereo min-jack to connect the md and comp (as analog) and transfer. if i use the mini-jack method, what program should i use on the comp to record? sound recorder only allow a few seconds. thanks

Make a .wav file from a CD....try one about 4 to 5 minutes long(depending on the lenght of the piece on your MD recorder). See if Windows Audiorecorder will allow you to open that .wav file. If it does....pull the drawbar back to the beginning and record over the existing .wav file.....use "delete after current position" when you are done....presto.
Use "save as" PCM 44.1 .wav" and your in business.....IF your version of Audiorecorder falls for this trick.

I have four MiniDisc recorders and three of them are the NetMD type. I know from experience and from reading many discussions on MiniDisc forums that you will need to use an analog transfer method, preferably from a line output on the MD recorder, to a line in or aux input on the sound card.

As far as recording software is concerned, I use Adobe Audition, but that is about $200 investment (about $100 for Syntrillium's Cool Edit 2000 and another $100 for the upgrade to Audition). You can check the Tools section of this website (link at the left near the bottom) and look under Audio Editors. I'm assuming that these editors also record, but you'll want to check their websites.
Tools used: ScenalyzerLive 4.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional, Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, IFOedit 0.96, DVD-lab PRO 1.53, Adobe Audition 2.0

I have the MZ-N10 as well, but you won't be able to use SonicStage. You cannot check in your own recordings. You'll have to use an analog method. As suggested, though, Windows Media Encoder should work.

  6. Just a thought. I use it to encode WAVs to WMA Lossless. I haven't ever tried to use it on a Line-In source but I'd be happy to try it when I get home. Also, it only runs on Win2000/XP...

Here's the link with the associated readme files and such:

  7. one of these days someone will finally make something that will break into the damn thing so you can copy your recordings off the MD directly, without going through an analog source

  8. on the specs page, it said the stereo mini-jack for analog input should be a minimum input level of 49 mV. does it really matter? can i just pick up any stereo mini-jack cable i see at the store?

i was messing with my nero wave editor. was wondering if i am able to use that to record the clips from my netmd thru analog input?

    thanks for all the inputs.
