  1. Hi all,

I want to purchase a DVD recorder and dvd-video read speed is important to me. I was allready to purchase the ND-2500A (NEC) but noticed on CDFreak that it is read limited to 2x. Does anyone know what the read speed of the pioneer A07 is or is my best bet the plextor 708?

    Cheers,
    dubbly

Here's a general question for you and anyone else who cares to comment. I may be a bit spoiled because I have room for 3 optical drives, but I'm curious why everyone is so concerned with rip speed and CD burn speed on DVD burners. All optical drives are basically mechanical devices that can only perform so many operations (reads, rips, CD burns, DVD burns) before they ultimately start to fail. DVD writer prices have dropped considerably since they first started but they're far from cheap (can somebody loan me $100+?). If you have the room, I'd recommend a good quality burner, which may or may not have a high CD burn rate or rip rate coupled with a combination DVD/CD-RW drive which can get you much higher CD burn speeds and rip rates, not to mention having to stick around to swap out the original DVD for a blank. Why would you want to wear out your DVD burner with menial tasks when you can get a second drive to do the same things even better for not a great deal more and extend the life of your DVD burner?

    Thanks in advance
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
