I have recently purchased a Ronin 215f dvd player which seems really good, with the exception of the odd occurance of some pretty major lip synching problems. I know the original Plastation 2 also had this problem but, by turning the machine off and restarting it (i.e. clearing the memory) you could overcome this. I've tried this method with the Ronin but it seems to have no effect.
Does anyone have suggestions to overcome this?

Does that post imply we should look in the news or what ? A forum search yields nothing.
I have the same problem with 2 215-F's although the single 215 I have does not share this problem. I have asked RMW for their comments on the matter via e-mail, if and when I hear anything back I will post the results.
In the mean time, if anyone has a solution then please let us know. Changing the downmix settings and so on (which is the only thing I can think of that could be causing such a bad delay) has no effect - I'm hoping for a firmware update like the region free one for the 215 that works like a charm. -
Thanks.
I finally received a reply from RWM although I wasn't sure whether taking the mickey or not - they asked me to contact the engineers, and on speaking to them was advised that they'd had this problem a lot with the 215f. Their solution...don't buy the 215f, buy the 215 instead as it's a far better machine! How unhelpful is that!
They advised me that as far as they are aware there are no software upgrades and there is no point is returning the machine to them as they have no fix for it! -
That's interesting, I spoke to their service center today and they said there wasn't a problem and to send it back for repair.
Also interestingly enough, as stated previously:
A colleague with the same player has the same problem...
My 215 works perfectly
My contact at RMWX has asked for the affected serial numbers so they can track it, and originally suggested updating the firmware to that of the 215, which we subsequently proved as being impossible - they are two distinctly different machines as far as firmware goes, so it's not just a decoder chip and a few phono connectors that make the man.
I will be returning the 2 affected players at the end of the week, and will let you know what happens. The 215-F's were bought for a reason over the 215, so replacing them with those or suggesting the F's are nout bought is not an option !
What is happening with your 215-F at the moment ? Is it still in it's unlocked state ?
If I get a result I will willingly provide you with contact names / numbers if required. -
Brilliant, thank you.
My machine is unlocked at the moment and I'm only using it occasionally - until I really can't stand the lip sync problem that is!
I know what you mean about downgrading to the 215 - wouldn't seem a particularly good option when comparing the 2 machines specs.
Would really appreciate it if you could let me know exactly what RMWX say about your machine - very intruiged. -
Hiya.
Quick update for you.
Both of the affected players I have here are going back today for repair. They are going back to a company whos website can be found here:
http://www.repairtech.co.uk
They are going to these people at the request of GNR International:
http://www.gnrintl.com/press/index.html
Who seem to own the Ronin / AMW group. My contact there has asked for the serial numbers of the affected units and seems to be very interested in following this issue up. The level of service I have received from these companies so far is completely different to the response you received (no fix, don't buy them indeed !), so I suggest you try these people for a resolution instead.
RepairTech reckon they have an average of a 5 day turnaround, and even say they will notify me when the player has been repaired and is ready to ship back - they certainly don't sound like a company that doesn't care less.
Good luck with your player - let us know how you get on ! -
Just a quick update, for all those who are interested.
Today, we got the two players back from repair and a quick check in the workshop here suggests the fault has been rectified. We will be paying very particular attention to them over the next few weeks, that's for sure - so if there are any problems I'll post back.
It's not all sweetness and light, however. One unit came back with a dead remote control, the other is missing its manual - we have let them know, so they have the oppourtunity to see us right. So to be fair, if they resolve this issue in a favourable manner, I'll post that back too. Our findings have been sent on to RMWX since they expressed an interest in the service of these players, and they do seem to have a genuine concern - so hopefully our experience will help them improve their products and services for all in the future.
BTW - my regular 215 still continues to perform perfectly, and plays any old crap I choose to feed it. I am still very happy with this cute little player. -
Just FYI, Repair Tech have just sent me a mail saying they're posting me a new remote and manual tonight.
So credit where it's due...
