check your hosts file to see if you have been hit by that virus

do a search on your system and see if you have more than 1 hosts file and and open them in notepad ..... there should only be one entry (normally - though you can add more in there yourself)

there should only be one hosts file in the /etc directory

I read on Ebay's community Bulletin Board that Paypal changed something in their security settings or something. I have everything that the message from Paypal said (IE 6 or higher and 128bit encryption) but still can't get there.
I'm getting REAL sick of these a$$holes.

Just did a Live Update and ran Norton.....nothing found.

  7. In my experience Norton wouldn't locate a problem like this.

Whenever something messes with my hosts file I find that a scan with Spybot Search and Destroy as well as a sweep of my files by a program called Privacy Outpost will usually solve all problems.

So you might want to give that a go (all programs listed above are shareware I believe) and then see whether you can reach PayPal.

You might also want to a Windows Update to see if you need any updates from their.

Anyone know how to get XP to start up in Safe Mode? I tried the F8 key repeatedly and (so far) it hasn't worked.
I was attempting to download a Windows Update when I had to cancel it. It was downloading the English version and my computer is HERE is German....OLD habits die HARD.
I need to set it back one day to try to undo the bad update if possible. The computer starts up...Windows "tune" plays...I see my desktop for a brief moment and then the blue screen of death.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys

if you cant hit f8 at the right moment (you dont have a big window there to hit it)

put a floppy disk in and change the bios so it boots off the floppy first .. it will stop there and then you can remove floppy and hit f8
