  1. Hello !

Hi have a very big problem with DVD burning speed.

    My configuration..

    I have a Plextor 708A (firmware 1.04) , an Atlhon 900 Mhz as processor , 512 Mb ram, HD Maxtor 60 GB 7200 rpm.

When I try to burn and image of a dvd ( ore even a data DVD) with the newest Nero 6.3 I selected to burn it at 4x on a Verbatim DVD+R , 4x certified.

Nero tells me that it would take approximatly 15 minutes to burn the 4.5 Gb of the movie image but it doesnt...!!!!

The countdown from 15 min to zero goes on.. but when it arrives to 0 the burning process is still at 30-35 % and it takes nearly more than 45 minutes to complete...

the result is perfect but calculating the real speed ... it is even less than 1x !!!

how can it be?? what can i do?

Please help me.. I bought a very good DVD writer but it is very sloww !!

With CD recording it is much better and I burn at more than 30x without problems!!!

    I need help

    thanks

  2. I'm no expert, but I think your burns take so long because of your processor speed.

  3. I don't think it is a matter of processor instead... It is not even 100% used while burning I see from the task manager ..

and I can burn CD at 32x or even more.. which is nearly the same transfert rate data of a 4x DVD.

can anyone help me ?? (

    thanks

  4. I think its poss that Nero thinks the disc isnt 4x and therefore only burns at 1x although i think if this is the case it will tell you in text screen above.

  5. not even that (
If I make Nero analise the disc it recognize it correctly.. telling me I can do a 4x burn

    My God..

    I will get crazy!

I've had this problem with certain discs myself. What I think it has to do with is the drive's firmware. The Plex has media codes written to it and when a disc is loaded into the drive it reads that code, compares it to the media codes written into the firmware, and "safely" adjusts it's burning speed accordingly. Perhaps the discs are not entirely certified to 4x.

USUALLY one should place the media into the drive before launching Nero, as Nero reads the info from the drive to adjust it's recording speeds. Although, this hasn't always worked for me personally, as at times I've had exactly the same 'problem' as you have stated here.

One suggestion, try other media. In my experience [which admittedly isn't all that great] Maxell certified discs have always been true to their printed speeds when burning.
