  1. Hi,
I have a Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorder and use this to record to DVD-RAM. I then transfer this to DVD-R on my PC (Windows ME, LG4040 drive) using either TMPGENC Author or Womble.

Problem I have encountered lately is that if I try to encode a large .VRO file to mpeg (using either software) - by large I mean approx 3.5Gbyte, 1up to 10Mbps VBR, approx 1 hrs worth - it seems to encode approx 45 minutes of the file fine, but the last 15 minutes or so just doesn't get encoded. The file is just cut short.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Any ideas?
    Ta

Could be because your using WinMe ... I do the same thing ... same equipment ... nothing goes wrong

But I've got WinXp ... NTSF filing system ... when I save ... in Womble ... I save to one of my drives with NTFS filing system.

  3. I believe WinME and Win98 have a file size limit which is one reason I run WinXP and Win2000 at home.

  4. Thanks for your tips, have tried a couple of experiments with other RAM discs (ie, recording same size files, then authoring).... all the other work fine with win ME, so it's not an ME problem.

In fact just trying to copy the "dodgy" VRO file to HDD fails after getting about 3/4 way through with a system error (163 or 167 I think??). Looking at the surface of the DVD-RAM, there appears to be a scratch....could this be the problem? It plays fine in the Panny though!

If it is the scratch, what are my options, any SW out there for recovering data from DVD-RAM so that I can re-write a new disk???

    Any advice appreciated!

Well ... first thought came to mind ... if it plays okay ... What about using another DVD Recorder to record onto another DVD disk. Just a thought.

How bad is the scratch ?? ... Can you try cleaning the disk. Or get a hold of another DVD Ram drive and see if it reads it ... quite a few options to think about. After checking it out ... return it to store for refund.

I use a Toshiba SD-M1712 for reading my DVD-Ram disks. $30 bucks on Ebay ... is where I got it.

Ebay Seller stuck it in a Mail Pouch with bubble wrap ... ended up in my neighbors mailbox ... she brought it to me about 11 o'clock at night ... LOL.

I live at 1129 Goleta Way ... she lives at 1229 Goleta Way.

When she brought it over ... she asked me how much did I pay for it [I think she was tossing around the idea of not telling me and trading it for a rock]

I showed her the Ebay transaction I got in my email.
