  1. Hi,

This is my first post here and I want to ask if there is an easy-to-use software that would allow me to black and mute certain frames in a divx/xvid file.

I don't want to cut files or to completely re-encod them.

    Thank you

Record it off tV then edit out the comercials.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

just record it off ABc , NBC or CBS or (best) TBS Superstation - all of those completly wipe clean and sanitize movies for sensitive americans ..

otherwise any NLE program can edit a movie

you can use Virtualdub, under "Video" select "Direct Stream Copy". Go through the file and cut out what you don't want, using the Mark In & Mark Out points and the Delete key. (more detailed instructions at left under How To: Edit).

Then Save As Avi, give it a new file name and you will have a clean version to go with your original.

but as far as something where you can just go in and black out frames, without saving as a new file, I don't know of any - the Virtualdub method is about the simplest I know.

I use VirtualDub to edit movies to make them more appropriate for my family; but I only use the cut and chop method - I have never tried to black out scenes. If your source is a DVD and you only need a few edits, you can use DVDShrink's cut function. Using DVDShrink may avoid any re-encoding.

BTW, if you ask about editing movies for content on this board your’re bound to get a few condescending comments about doing it. This board doesn’t worry much about why people “backup” DVDs; however, if you ask about editing the “artistic content” from a movie, some people on this board begin to sound like Jack Valenti and the Motion Picture Association of America.

You could avoid all of this by joining an anti-obscenity coalition, or some whacko parent's group and bombard the head of the FCC (Michael Powell) with loads of email. Thereby, forcing him to use his so-called power to put more strict standards on these offensive scenes...

You could also move somewhere else where they don't allow things like language and the occasional nudity.

What movies are you letting children watch that need this much editing (censoring)? Why not just avoid this title?

c'mon guys, we should ease up - it's possible that the original poster is trying to remove the violence from their porn.

but, artistic concerns aside, I would think it would make more sense to show the kids age-appropriate material, or raising them in such a way that off-color material won't warp their little minds.

if you don't want your kids to see nudity or hear the word "****", don't show them movies with nudity or f-bombs in it...

personally, I'd like to know what movies you're editing, and what you're editing out.

  10. If the "little childrens" cannot watch it as it was released in the theatre, then make them wait to see it when they are old enough.

well put. people have all kinds of reasons for wanting to edit content. language, skin, violence, gore, bad editing, bad acting, stupid scenes added to classic star wars movies, etc. who cares? If you have useful advise, give it.
I personally use TMPGenc dvdauthor to edit out scenes I find "objectionable". Unfortunately it is much more difficult to mute them. You'll have to demux, convert sound if its AC3, edit, convert back, remux, blah blah blah. not worth it in my opinion.

I have edited a dozen or so PG rated "family" movies that have a few scenes or language that I would prefer my kids not view or hear in my home.

For example, Iron Giant is a great movie, but that kid sure could cus. I only edited out the objectionable words on this one.

Another movie that comes to mind is Agent Cody Banks. It is a fun movie, but I didn't think they needed to include a holographic strip show.

I've never tried to edit an R rated movie and I have only edited a few PG-13 movies.

One PG-13 movie I have edited was Pearl Harbor. My Great Uncle was portrayed in the movie (Capt. of the West Virginia) and I wanted to be able to show the film to my 13 year old without the stupid love story and without some of the language.

  13. Ok, I asked a technical question and was expecting technical answers. Right now, I'm using FadeToBlack which allows me to overlay unwanted frames. It dose not render the whole movie, only the edited frames. But since it has some bugs, I need to find other alternatives.

    Thank you for the help.

Do you know how kids that are 13 and older are treated after their friends find out their parents won't let them watch pg-13? Come on, give me a break!!! You are raising a brood of potential sexual deviants. You probably tell your kids that nudity is bad, and that is why mommy and daddy sleep in separate beds.
