  1. Well, this issue is really bugging me and I'm starting to get really annoyed.

I have obtained an anime serial, Cowboy Bebop to be precise, and am in process of adding new subtitles. I have successfully mastered the entire process following various online manuals and mostly using IfoEdit and Srt2Sup, as well as Supremap. I have managed to produce a good DVD structure with a new subtitle set (I have even amended some times, got all the IFO colors right et cetera) but the problems are elsewhere; my new subtitles are of poor quality, as if they are not rendered at all. I have tried several different font sorts, various outline/antialiasing settings, but it didn't help at all. The subtitles are clumsy and ugly and nowhere near the fine quality of the standard DVD subtitles.

So, my question is: how can I have a set of subtitles that have original good looks of the proper subs? Can I copy some of the settings from another "original" IFO, and if, which one? Did I mess up with IfoEdit or Srt2Sup? I am at loss right now, and could use some proper guidance.

And, of course, if you know any other new, commercial product that can solve this issue more easily, a one that could accept any form of subtitles and integrate them into the main IFO file, please let me know.

    Thank you all in advance!

  2. Hi,

If you are using Srt2Sup to generate your subtitles then this is the basis for the quality of your subtitles.

Srt2Sup uses the standard windows rendering, but this seems to work better for some people than others.

If you want the best quality you could use another program to generate the subtitles as bitmaps and use Srt2Sup to convert this to a SUP file.

  3. Hello, Srt2Sup, and thank you for your reply!

First of all, though you must have heard it 1000 times by now, but here it comes once more; you made a great application! I salute you!

I have fallen in love with Srt2Sup and it comes as a great disappointment that this isn't working very well for me. The subs are of rather miserable quality, which baffles me, since everything else is top prime notch good stuff!

I would have loved to try it out and go all the way with Srt2Sup, but alas, it seems it cannot be. May I be so inquisitive and ask you for your advice upon which program I should use to transfer my subs into bitmaps and then to convert it in Sup format. Are the some programs that work better with Srt2Sup or am I on the safe ground here?

  4. Hi,

ULEAD DVD WORKSHOP 2 produces almost pefect subtitles.

Combine in with a SUBTITLE WORKSHOP`s output of your subtitles (of course in ULEAD format), import it in the WORKSHOP...

    And there you are...

    Must try...
Open your mind and maybe someone will tell you what`s inside.

  5. Thanks, Zocky, I'll try it out and report about my results. I would have preferred a free tool, but then again… I'll download the trial ware version and see how good it turns out.

Still, any other suggestions? A free tool, perhaps?

  6. Hi!
Not a free tool but when I saw the program I fallen in love with it.
I proudly to present: Adobe Encore DVD. This is a very advanced tool to create and to reauthor DVD's.

You have to convert the subtitle from subtitle workshop format to Encore format, import it and that's it! :P

  7. Oh, thanks, bigofir2!

I didn't know Adobe Encore DVD had the ability to handle subtitles too; it seems to be a new late entry. I am still puzzled why Srt2Sup didn't bring out the subs in a better quality…

I'll download the trial ware and try it out.

Oh, and Ulead DVD Workshop 2 doesn't support my mother language format, unfortunately.

  8. Hi,

As I said above I use the truetype rendering code that is built into windows I don't render the fonts myself.

Therefore the quality is down to the Windows rendering engine.

If I had the time, team and budget that say Adobe has maybe I could make the subtitles look a lot better!

As it is I have had a massive £7 donated to help support Srt2Sup.

So you get what you pay for!

  9. Lol!

Srt2Sup, I'm sorry if I seemed to be complaining about your excellent program; I'm not. I'm just puzzled why some people get better rendering results then I do. Yes, I have understood that the rendering is being done through Windose, and not your excellent application , hence the confusion. I run XP + service pack 1.1 and all the people I've asked (PC geeks all the way) couldn't help me out because they never messed with it/had no troubles with their rendering results.

Once more; I love your application and I think it's great!
