is this player (pioneer dv-434) region free by default? snooped around on the dvd section for quite a while, but couldn't get a positive answer. I am in the USA and will be playing USA dvd's most of the time, but i have several PAL dvd's that i need to play...
do i need a hardware mod or firmware upgrade for this? also, any player you reccomend over this? I just bought a sony DVP-NS715P but gotta return it cause the region free mod is ~$100
thanks

wtf. thats really gay. what do you all reccomend for a good region free dvd player. i'm looking for something that plays vcd/svcd/dvdr and is also region free. im a very simple man
im so glad i asked before i bought that dv-434 -
oh yeah, and preferably something that looks nice...led counter on the face, etc. but if it comes to it i will get an APEX cause i know that is the most obvious choice that fulfills my criteria.. thx in advance guys

look at one of the better quality Malata Dvd Players (like a 996 i seem to recall)
they play anything pretty well and do PAL to ntsc conversion also -- they are also region free
look through the player listing at the left ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I've emailed someone who left feedback for the dv-434 and he says it indeed plays all region. I don't know who is correct :>
Does anybody else have input on this topic? -

what retailers? Because I would like to buy one if i could get my hands on a region free one ...
thanks for all the help -
hmm, its a pretty old unit now -- and no longer made .. you will have to search around to find,
and dont buy a used one (they dont last long - thats for sure) ....
you may really want to look at a different player (still)....

I got the 434. How do I know if it is region free or not. It has only played ntsc dvds so far.

put another region disk in it and see if it plays ...
pal or ntsc has no bearing on this ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
