  1. I have desided to convert a bunch of my familys old home videos to DVD, and I want to know the best way to seperate them into chapters.

So far I have captured 3 of the tapes on to my computer using a TV capture card, so I have 3 files with about 1-1:30 of film.

Ulead MovieFactory came with my capture card so I added all the moves to a DVD, and burned it. Now the problem is that I can select each tape, but now I want to add scene selection.

What software is good to allow me to seperate the files into scenes, and remove the black parts between scenes.

  3. You're going to have to re-author the DVD. Chapter points are added during the authoring process.

You'll have to rip the VOB files from the DVD, import them into the authoring program and re-build the project.

I recommend DVDDecrypter for ripping, and DVD-Lab for doing the re-authoring.

  4. Sorry I must not have been clear,

I completly understand that I will need to reauthor the DVD, thats not the problem.

My question is what would be a good program that will allow me to add the chapter points, and remove the garbage video between scenes.

  6. Have not personally used the product but from the description of MovieFactory at Ulead's website:
Efficiently find time codes to remove or keep sections inside video. Easily get rid of unwanted video and commercials from TV.
    and
Automatically add convenient chapter points. Base them on DV tape stops and starts, scene changes or at fixed time intervals. Or simply insert a chapter point at any time during the DVD creation process.
Unless I am mistaken, you should be able to do this in MovieFactory.

I second the use of TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Makes edits without *ucking up audio sync and no other program I have used makes selecting chapter points easier. It's almost a dream in that respect.

You can download it and use it for free for something like 30 days before it locks up on you and requires you to register it by purchasing a code for it (that's how you "buy it").
