  1. Greetings:

Could someone please recommend a good/excellent 16x DVD drive? I intend to use this player along with a multiformat 4X/8X DVD burner and DVDXCOPY software.

Advance thanks for any suggestion and help.

I HIGHLY recommend the JLMS (Lite-On) XJ-HD166S. Can be had on sale for less than 40 USD. Rips single layer DVD's up to 15x and double layer @ 6-8x.
I got mine at Circuit City (was a Starlogic, re-badged Lite-On) for 9.99 after MIR.

Not sure where you are located but Best Buy carries them in the US.

  4. yep newegg has that burner for almost $30 USD and probably free ship.

I just got the 48x CDRW/16x DVDROM last week. I can rip movies in less than 15 minutes and that was Black Hawk Down Special Edition.

  6. Thank you alll for your recommendation.

Between LiteOn 163 and 166s model. Which one will you pick? I just find out CDRInfo review highly recommend the 163 model.

Fortunately, I am in the US and both store Best buy & Circuit city is near by.

Forgive my ignorance, does "rip" mean backup entire DVD movies from one drive to another? If so, 15min for a movie is pretty impressive.

By the way, did anyone try to play Chinese DVD on this drive? Does it work? I had a collection of Chinese DVD for US region (NTSC format, english subtitle), it does play on my set-top Pioneer DVD player and my Inspiron 8000 laptop. However, for unknow reason, it just stop playing on the Laptop.
