Hey,
I recently (as of half an hour ago) went and purchased a Memorex DVD-RAM disk from Futureshop. On the package it says For home DVD-RAM Video Recorder Use, however, when I asked a salesman if it would work with the 4040B Recorder, he said it should.
Now, I take it home and pop it into the 4040B. The CD itself is, for some reason, called "Opto_UDF" and I'm not exactly sure as to why. Ignoring this, I venture into Nero and bring up the Media-Info box which says that of the 4,369MB Total Capacity, 0 is available.
So, basically, I'm a little confused on how to write and, well, work around with DVD-Ram disks.
I tried, using the wizard in Nero, to continue a multi session DVD, but it said, quote: "Error while readin. Possibility of corrupt disk".
Here is a link to the product I purchased:

I'm beginning to think I bought the wrong thing!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
-Jim

I haven't tried DVD RAM yet but our 4040B's are supposed to be compatible. What firmware revision do you have?
-
Hey,
I've no idea what firmware I have! -_- I've tried poking around in the properties to find out, but I can't find it.

Not that familiar with DVD-RAM myself, so apologies if this is an ignorant response, but maybe the disc needs to be re-formatted? Is there an option in Nero to format the DVD-RAM disc?

Hey,
According to the Package, the Memorex DVD-RAM comes pre-formatted to UDF 2.0 already! -_- But I did think about this, however, I found no such option in Nero, and for some reason my help file is missing..

According to DVDINFOPro, my firmware version is A300. According to you, the newest is A302, so I guess I better update it
I've been trying to search the LG Support website, lgservice.com, but I can't even find the 4040B on it.
Perhaps if you reply with a link, I'll be able to update
Thanks,

Hey there,
I use DVD-RAM discs all the time. I think of them as a small removable HDD. If your's is already formatted UDF then u should be able to put it in and open it in MyComputer as though it's a folder or drive. All i did was create a couple of folders. Now i use it to store all my apps (tmpg, vdub, etc). U can take it out anytime to burn a DVD-R, then put it back in when u want to install (or watch) something off the RAM disc.
I'm also using the 4040B, and i must say i'm quite impressed. I had a P106 and this is just as good + the RAM feature. Gotta say though, i've had a few issues with different brands of DVD-R. It won't always write at the max speed of the disc. I had done the 301 update, which solved some compatability issues. But still not all discs write at the correct speed. I've just done the 302 update, not had chance to test any more brands of discs yet though. Here's the link to the updates neway, www.lgelectronics.co.uk Product Support -> Drivers -> CD-RW.
Hope that helps some1What one man can do, another man can do! -
Hey!
AlrightThanks for this information. I wont even need to use Nero, as you said Windows XP will be able to do it right away
I'm a little nervous about updating firmware at the moment (kind of like updating my bios..), and I too have had the burn Dvd-R at slower speed than max, but that doesn't bother me too too much.
I'm going to try testing this thing out and see how it goesReplies to follow..

Hey,
I have a problem when I try to copy folder to folder with Windows Explorer. I get the following error:
Windows does not support this CD-RW format. To use this disc, choose the task "Erase this CD-RW", which will format the disc so that Windows can use it.

UPDATE!
I was searching around on the internet, and I found a program called DvdWriterPro. This program is amazing! It wrote to my DVD-RAM disks quickly and efficiently. I've already written, erased and re-written multiple times to my disks, with no problems.
I'm very surprised at how little information there is on DVD-RAM disks out there, so I think I might even make up my own guide explaining things that I've found out in the last 24 hours.
I'm also very pleased to find out that my LG GDR-8161B DVD-ROM drive reads RAM disks with no problem! Man I love LG..
Thanks to everybody who helped me out!
