    Hey all,

I'm having a problem with menus in TMPGEnc DVD Author. I'm sure this is something I'm overlooking, but.......Whenever I author a DVD with menus, on playback, the DVD plays the menus in about 2 seconds. Just skips right throught them and on to the movie portion. I can't seem to get it to stop on them. I've tried many settings (obviously, I can't seem to find the correct ones).

Has anyone ever seen this problem. The skinny is that this software works well, but I can hardly get it to work at all.

    Thanks much,

    Paul

  2. In "create menu" screen, select "display menu settings", then "general" tab. Try "automatic"setting and "display main menu" in the 2 lower fields.

Then, select tab "motion menu". Option to use should be unchecked.

    Close window.

At the upper r/h area of the same "create menu" screen, make sure "firstplay action" is set to "display main menu".

Burned DVD in set top player should load and show your main menu indefinitely unless the player's screensaver kicks in.

last thing to check are your player's own setup settings - can't help you there, as many different recipes.

You can also play the dvd files with windvd or powerdvd before you burn them to see if the menus work.

My problem is that the above is what I've been doing -- although I admit that I didn't use the "automatic" function, but tried with both main menu only and main and track menus.

Ive been checking them in powerdvd, but maybe I need to actually burn one and check it in my player. From past experience, though, I've noticed that if it doesn't play correctly in powerdvd, it won't play in the stand alone unit, as the results are generally the same.

    'Tis confusing....

  6. Paul -

FWIW, I've burned 100+ disks using TDA and never had a problem with menus acting up as you are seeing. And my burned disks have worked on at least 6 different set top players.

Has this been a "day oine" problem for you ?

Are you using one of TDA'S built-in menu templates or did you make custom template(s) ?

What version of TDA do you have ? Latest release is 1.5.15.49

BTW... if you can't get this prob resolved on this board, suggest you repost over on the TMPGenc TDA forum http://www.tmpgenc.net/

  7. Hi all.

I have come up to exact the same problem and so far no solution to it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I did find that if I burned the disc it plays fine. It's powerDVD that can't handle them. I think theres a versioning issue with powerDVD. I have an older version and in the "read from file" dialog, it only lets me select the track VOB files but not the disc files (whose names I can't remember).
Those are the files that define the chapters (I think), so playing the VOB files directly just races through the menus.

The effect is real, the reason could be wrong, I am just hypothesizing from looking at the files in IfoEdit.

  9. Thank you snapfisher
You are right. When burning the DVD it shows up correctly.
