That site is a 100% waste of space.

The site is run by anal-retentive dorks. I scanned a lot of requests from them, and I get back bullshit mesages of rejection like "the logo is soft" or "bad URL" or "the spine is off-center by a few pixels" or "cannot accept covers from this company's products". Well then, why did you allow the request? Fools!

I spent time scanning 6-7 covers, uploading them to my server, all so I could get 3 custom covers in return. I scanned 400 dpi. 400 f-ing DPI! Don't give me this "too soft" crap. And then I had to DOWNSIZE to their "perfect" 300dpi they want. The covers are SCANS! If anything is offcenter, it's the original cover being offcenter!

The only thing I can think of causing "softness" is the JPEG format itself (again, something they insist upon ... I save my covers natively a raw TIFF, had to convert for them). This is why I shoot RAW NEF with my Nikon D1 instead of JPEG.

So anybody thinking of joining them, don't waste your time. At least not unless they get their shiiit together better.

I've been a photographer most of my life, using digital imaging for years now, so I get incensed by pre-pubescent morons that give me BS about digital imaging. The dvdcoverart.com site sucks. They are imbeciles when it comes to maintaining the site and enforcing the "rules" of the art.

I may buy a few credits and be done with it. I'll be sure to charge it in case they try to pull funny stuff.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO ADD CONTENT TO THAT SITE!

A site like that is going to have a hard time growing. I hope www.coverfiend.com pays attention to this message. Succeed where your competition FAILS to perform. In fact, ADVERTISE on coverfiend.com that you will excel where they fail on this front. Just a word of advice, because you (the coverfiend guy) seemed sensible.

If all you want are to download some of their covers than just buy some credits. They are like 10 cents a piece. The amount of work to scan or create a cover is nowhere near being equal to the 10-20cents worth of credits that you get in return. Most of the people who upload covers do so because they actually enjoy it.

Not sure where this thread is going, but I purchased credits a few weeks ago and love it so far.

  6. Never used them, just what quality are their covers (typical file size for a cover)?

I've used them a couple of times. Covers are excellent quality and are usually aroud 5MEG in size.

If you only BUY from them, you may never experience the utter bollocks (thanks for expanding my vocabulary, Will) that I have just witnessed.

I'm curious if anybody has ever tried to UPLOAD instead or in addition to buying.

Again, for the record, THAT SITE SUCKS.

They're raising their rates in a few days too.

Raising prices, disorganization ... sounds like a failing venture to me !!!!!

Didn't realize they were hiking their rates. I use them but they have been fine. I have tons of credits and need them rarely.

As one of the anal-retentive dorks you referred to, I thought I'd chime in with my two cents. With the HUNDREDS of submissions that we get everyday, there isn't enough time to fix all the covers that come in. I'll be honest when I tell you that I never spend more than 5 minutes on any one cover during the approval process. It's your job to make whatever you submit to the site meet the requirements, not ours.

  11. I found this one: www.coversdvd.com

It's a portuguese site with thousands of 300 dpi covers all free. they're still translating the site to english, but you can send an email to info@coversdvd.com in order to get yourself registered and have some help.

    Very nice covers, all free.

This reminds me of a typical Microsoft or ATI response.
It's amazing how people can just totally ignore what was said.

I bet it hurts to sit.

Wanted to add a few more things, in case people were not yet aware...

Custom Cover (created by you): +3 credits
    Snapper/Digipak Conversion: +2 credits
Insert (scanned or custom): +1 credit
    Scan: +0 credit
Additional Request Fill Bonus: +1 credit
YOU GET NO CREDIT FOR SCANS!!!!!!
It used to be +2 for a cover, and +2 to fill request.
Changed just a few days ago.

I think I know why my submission were rejected!
They wanted to screw me out of credits. How nice.

-the prices to purchase credits will be going up $1 per bundle on 01/18/04. As much as we hate to raise prices, it is necessary to pay for the massive bandwidth and hosting costs the site, and we think most users will agree that the prices are still extremely reasonable given the quantity and (more importantly) quality of covers we offer
No credit for covers, more money to buy credits. Sounds great, where do I bend over... errr, I mean sign up?

This is intended to be my last message on this matter.

With all the "great site" comments I've seen from users, I thought I'd better share the darker half of trying to support their community. Forget that mess.

Next thing you know, it'll costs several credits for one cover. Remember when video games went from 25-cents each to 4-quarters each? You just watch.

    Hey lordsmurf,

Kind of makes you want to ask:

    "Am I wearing lipstick"

    "No....Why?"

"Because I want to look pretty while I getting f***ed"
