  1. Hello all,

First post here and would like to say "hi" to everyone. I have a Plextor PX-708A that likes Verbatim and TDK media, but I personally do not like the price of that media at the local store. I have read that Ritek is very good media, and I found the G04's for a good price at Rima.com, and wanted to know if it is a safe bet that they will work in my drive, or should I just get a sample pack to be on the safe side? I have read what media is compatible at Plextors website for this drive, and also looked here at DVDRhelp, but did not find that brand listed. If anyone could give any advice to this, and if they have done business with Rima.com I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'd also like to see the answers to your questions. I went ahead and ordered 25 of them from rima, they had really good score at www.resellerratings.com I didn't get the sample pack because it only includes 2 disks that are 4x all the rest are 2.4x With these new plexxie drives out, they should offer a 4x sample pack, I bet it would be very popular. When my disks come in, I'll post what info I can, but I must admit, ths is my first encounter with a dvd burner.

    peace.

  3. Thanks guys...I also didn't want a sample pack of media that had only a couple 4x disks, so I think the 25 pack of Ritek is what I will order as well. I should be able to hold off until you can post back, and if those are a no go, I will order something different and then let you know what happened. The Taiyo Yudens are listed as compatible with the drive, although a big price difference if you want a 100 pack. You can always offload them on ebay and recover the majority of your money if they don't work at all. I have a feeling the PX-708A will burn just about anything. I have yet to burn a coaster, or see any skipping or locking up on Verbatim and TDK media out of 8 movies.

I was told by our vendor that Ritek 4x dvd+r (with Ricoh ID), Verbatim 4x dvd+r and Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd+r can burn 8x at your drive.

  5. Hi, I have ordered some Ritek 4x on allmediaoutlet.com, not sure if they are G04 or not, it was not clear, however the disk that came with the Plextor px-708a burned nicely at 8x, I think it was Taiyo Yudens (Plextor name was on the disc)

I also read on a post from Plextor support that 4x certified DVD+R media can burn at 8x, we shall see... My 8x burn with the included +r disc took 8 minutes and 8 seconds for a full 4.3 gb dvd video and worked great in my old no name player

  6. I've only had my Plextor for a little over a week, but I have burned several TDK +R discs (15 pack for $19.99 when it was on sale at CompUSA) at 8x speed. The only problem is that my Apex AD-600 won't recognize them, even after updating the software. From reviews it seams to do better with -R.

So I'm looking for a DVD -R that will work with both the Plextor Writer and my Apex. I ordered one Ritek from Meritline.com as a test. I'm also thinking of trying a 25-pack ($19.99) of Generic 4x -R from PCClub.com

  7. My Ritek 1x-4x DVD-R test worked backing up a DVD-5 movie using DVD-Shrink and Roxio... however, I burned using the "Power Rec" features which picks the optimal burn speed and most of it burned at 1x (slow).... but most importantly (for me) is that the DVD worked on both my (APEX- AD600) player and my girlfriends (forget brand)

  8. I used the Ritek Logo dvd-r 4x discs from allmediaoutlet.com

    http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/amo/p_proddetail.php?kitNbr=304

    This was the 50 pack

I burned a full 4300 mb video disc using Nero 6 ultra and it played on a only sony 200 disc changer and my PC just fine. Only took about 14 to 15 minutes...

In my experience with my Plextor 708A they don't work well with MEMOREX DVD+R 4x spd because some of them are manufactured by CMC which is crappy media. I've posted on this site many times that I tried using MEMOREX and got a coaster so I returned them and got a refund. Although on Plextor's compatibility site lists CMC I wouldn't recommend using them.

I would recommend you purchasing the 25 pack of Generic 4x DVD-R from Pcclub.com. I've got a spindle of those and they are RITEK G04. I have a relative that lives in Las Vegas so I got 2 more 25 packs.

I am burning a 4 gig DVD to Ritek G04 (-R)disks from New Egg as I browse. I too have the Plextor PX 708A. Nice quiet drive.

Memorex -R Burned 50 with "0" coasters. CMC media
TDK +R Burned several but they will not play in my Panisonic standalone. No report from the few out on compatability.
Ritek G04 Burned 10 or so with no errors.

I have tried to burn some Image files from a Slave drive at 8X to TDK +R disks but the burn takes 30 to 40 minutes. Moving the images to a Master drive and the burn matches the 8X speed.
No coasters either way (Nero 6.3.0.0)
