  1. Hi!
Partly on the strength of recommendations in these forums I bought a Pacific 1002W DVD player. When I try out some VCDs downloaded from the newsgroups some play OK others break up into pixelated messes.

The media is OK as the the good VCDs are on the same media as the bad ones. I've tried burning at different speeds with no joy. When I play the VCDs with powerDVD the picture is fine with some the sound breaks up very badly.

To try and figure out what's going on I've loaded the files into VirtualDubMod. The ones that play OK are MPeg 1's or MPeg 2's with a frame size of 480 x 480. Those MPeg 2's with frame sizes of 480 x 400 fail as described above.

Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here? Is it a dodgy DVD player or is it a dodgy rip (others seem to be playing them happily.) Why does PowerDVD have problems with them as well?

    Thanks

    Kev

PS I don't think we're talking Warez here - these are X-files episodes I've already got and Jeremiah episodes that have yet to find their way to this part of the globe. If I've broken forum policy - sorry!

  2. Oddly the problem is at the start of the SVCD. If I leave it playing it'll sort itself out after five minutes. Investigations continue
