Transfer from Video Personal Recorder to DVD (pana dmr-E30)

I recorded some programs on my VPR through Expressvu (canadian equivalent of Tivo), which I later transferred, using my Panasonic DMR-E30, on dvd-r, for archival purposes.

The transfer seemed to work ok, I even completed the table of contents, and finalized the disc.

But now the disc just won't play at all on the Panasonic, though it will play on a computer.

I read that some programs, such as digital hdtv ones, may have some encryption that may prevent the copying (not unlike the anti-copy devices on videotapes). The programs I tried to transfer from my VPR were hdtv.

My questions are:

Is this the reason why the dvd-r won't play?

If such is the case, is there a way to "circumvent" the anticopy device, or to play the dvd-r on my machine?

when you say "it wont play", what do you mean? Does the panny give you errors. If so, what are they? Does it spin up and then does nothing...what media are you using?

How did you make copy to your DVD-R ?

The dvd is hooked to the VPR audio/video outputs like if it were a vcr.

The disc spins, and nothing happens, no message on the display; it it like the machine "freezes", as no commands will perform [stop/open drawer...], I have to turn it off, and on again to access the disc.

I'm not sure I understand your question about the media I use.

The panasonic is hooked to the VRP (a machine provided by ExpressVu) and to my home theatre system.

the media brand is what I was asking about. Some users have reported (and what you said happens to your machine is making this a better possibility) that certain media brands have caused them problems. Personally, I have used really cheap media (princo, etc.) and havent had problems like this.

Can you tell me the file structure and the specs for the video:

1) does it have the video_TS, ifo,bup,vob structure on the computer dvd rom
2) Resolution, bit rate, etc.

I should add that i have transferred many programs from many sources (audio/video) to my panasonic without problems (though the discs won't play on any other machine, as the instruction manual warns). But never, unless I'm mistaken, was the satellite signal a hdtv one...

The blank discs I use are most of the time princo, s'times maxell; but in the problem case, they were princo.

I'm a bit at a loss with your second question...

If you're talking about the PVR, it is sold by Expressvu (our canadian equivalent of Tivo) under its name, and has no specs in the manual...
