I tried to burn an hour long .asf file with nero. Everything was fine. Nero even showed that I had alot more space on the DVD+R. However, after the transcoding was done Nero wouldn't take the dvd+ saying that it didn't have enough space on the disc. I've never used it and it's right out of the package. I am now trying to use TMpenc to convert it to a vcd. Does anyone think that'll solve my problem? I believe it showed that I was using 3gb and the disc can hold 4.7.

Convert the .asf file to an .avi format first. Then convert (Stoik convertor) to an appropriate file format for your application. Nero is not that great at encoding from one format to another in general. good luck
