  1. Can anyone help me before something gets seriously broken?
I recently installed this card, but cannot get any normal sounds from the TV input.
I can receive radio signals OK, but when watching or trying to record the TV input, all I get is noise.
I have installed the card in 2 PC's, one with a Soundblaster Live card, and the other with onboard sound, the problems are identical when installed on either machine.
If I try to use Virtual Dub, I cannot get sound or picture, and the settings will not allow me to choose PAL as the standard.
I hope that this is just a matter of getting the settings correct, but I've run out of ideas. My previous Matrox card was no problem at all, but had to be junked as it was not supported in XP.
I'm almost ready to fetch my axe!
    Any ideas?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Well, you need to do some reading about your problems. Can't be covered easy from a simply post!

In short terms: It is a driver problem. It seems that your old card had vfw drivers for winxp, so it was possible to work with vfw programs like virtualdub. Your new card seems that hasn't vfw drivers, only wdm which now is the standard for w2k/xp.
In this case, Virtualdub need tweaking to work on w2k/winXP. And when this is done, you can only use this application with the TV system you choosed as default while you set up your drivers. Virtualdub don't allow to change that.
So what you can do: Use virtualVCR for capturing. This is a native win2K/XP capture program for wdm drivers like the ones you now use.

Also, are you capturing from a tuner or a video in? You have to set it up. Depending the drivers you are using, this can be easy or impossible to be choosed from virtualdub.
Again, you have to use virtualVCR to use the tuner.

If you search hard, you might find ways to use virtualdub also, but that is an advance subject, needs lot's of effort and tweaking, while you can simply use virtualVCR for capturing direct, without any further searching. It is your choice!

  4. I don't have the fm model, but I do have the ASUS TV880 card, and have found sound support to be dodgy (and I've seen a few posts from others saying the same thing). You might try some of the software I made in another post:

Personally I've found iuvcr best for avi's, and I'Ve been using powervcr for mpegs, though I'm looking for something else now that supports 48 khz sound recording for DVD
