  1. I've done my share of video captures from VHS. However, in capturing my kids' TELETUBBIES tape (yes they are VERY annoying) for conversion to SVCD, I have encountered something I have not seen before. There is a black bar along the left hand side of the screen during capture and playback of the MPG file. It is rather narrow and occupies approx. 7/8 of screen height. In it there appears to be the equivalent of white "barcode" symbols flashing in patterns.

What in Sam Houston is it? Will it be visible on my TV or do I need to clip frame w/ TMPGEnc prior to encoding?

    Thanks !!

Sounds like the vertical blanking signal. But it's up and down the left side of the screen? That's nothing I've ever seen before.

    Anyone?

  3. Yes, it is up and down on the left side. I captured 2 more TELETUBBIES videos and they have the same thing! These are the only tapes I have ever seen them on. These are BBC/PBS productions -- could it have something to do with PAL/NTSC conversion for U.S. sale or something?

Could it be an ENCODED MESSAGE from the TELETUBBIES' Mothership!?
