  1. I am new to this forum basically and I have seen alot of posts on AVI-DVD. When compressing AVI vids, do they look better on DVDs than Mpegs?

I usually create hour and a half videos, so would I be able to compress that AVI into a DVD and have it look better than its DVD counterpart?

    Sorry for the newb question.

Remember, a DVD format is a type of MPEG-2, plain and simple. If you want a DVD video, it will have to encoded to MPEG to authored to a DVD. Some programs do it automatically, others have hands-on controls.

As for the comparison between AVI vs DVD (MPEG), the results are pretty even. the DivX codecs give startling images, as well as DV, which is another type of AVI.
    Hello.
