  1. I have Windows xp and just suddenly I can't get Windows to start. The Windows screen comes on, but then it aborts and there is an error message about not being able to access the registry hive (and certain file path given). I restored the C drive with Ghost and got it working, but I am curious what could cause such a problem.

I"m having XP problems too. I restored to a date about 2 weeks ago and then turned off the updates. Now it seems okay. Please let me know if this works for you.

Our problems might be different, but it worth a try...

  4. Did you have a power failure or an improper shutdown? These are just a few of a multitude of things that could cause those sorts of problems. It could have also been malware inflicted.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

  5. There was a power failure, but I can't remember whether I had the computer on. I've problems lately with viruses and rootkits. I can restore the C drive but there is a possibility that there is malware on the D and E drive that makes it back to the C drive.
