  1. Does anybody here have any idea of how to capture a VHS tape without all the macrovision mumbo jumbo from the VCR? Any way at all to capture the tape? I have a movie on VHS and i want to capture it without the macrovision thing. I have a Digital V8 camcorder, the cables to connect it to the VCR ( red, white, yellow ) and a DV cable to connect the camera to my computer. Those are the things i have to work with......and i dont want to go out to buy any other equipment. Any ideas? or is capturing impossible in my case?

If you don't want to buy any further equipment then you're stuck with what you have. Try it and see...

Check your manual and see if your camera has pass through. if not, your VCR needs TBC technology, or you may just have to get a TBC, ao a macrovision killer.

I don't know about TRV330, you have to go through the menu of your camcorder.

I have Sony D8 DCR-TRV840 camcorder with Analog to Digital pass through.
I tried to transfer some cartoons from VHS to my stand alone LiteOn DVD recorder. And I couldn't do it. LiteOn told me that it is protected content.

So, I connected VCR out to my camcorder, enabled A->D pass through, and connected camcorder to my DVD recorder with FireWire cable. And I was able to copy VHS tape to DVD.

    Check this page: http://www.consumerdvreviews.com/camcorders/Sony_DCRTRV330/specs.asp

Scroll down to Noteable Features section. There it says:

    - Super NightShot(TM)
    - Playback Zoom
    - Super LaserLink
    - Analog-to-Digital conversion and pass-through
    - Intelligent Accessory Shoe
    - Headphone jack
    - LANC terminal
    - Mic Input

It appears that your TRV330 has A->D pass through. You need to turn your camcorder into VCR (or VTR) mode, then go to the menu and find that option.

On my TRV840 menu screen this option in the VCR SET section and it reads: A/V-> DV OUT

After you find this, you will be able to copy Macrovision protected VHS tapes through your camcorder, and you will not need to go out to buy any other equipment.
