  1. just tried 3.1 and it seems to work very well. The only problem I have found is that when it automatically calls up Nero's burn engine,it uses the default burn speed, 2X in my case.
When I run Nero separately I can select 1X, but I don't see anywhere to make this selection in DVD Shrink.

Anyone know of a setting or a registry entry I can change to have Shrink/Nero default to 1X, or at least present me with the option to select burn speed?

    TIA, Carl

  2. Just tried DVD Shrink3.1 and it worked fine, also with burning the DVD-R but it sometimes freeze in my Phillips 634.

    Problem also with other proggies:

    Sometimes the picture 'freeze'.
I used SmartRipper, then DVD Shrink2.1, then Nero Burning.

When i use DVDDecrypter and just copy a DVD-5 (iso mode), everything goes fine and the picture doesn't freez.

So when the picture freezes, does this come from the ripping or the burning ??

Just curious, Why would you want to burn 1x if your drive can handle 2x. Nero and your drive looks at the header of your DVD and determines that if can handle 2x, why would you want to slow it down?

Please elaborate. When you are buring you are basicaly data to the disk (ones and zeros). If this was true if I burned data to a DVD at a high speed I would have documents that are corrupt or missing data.

Please elorborate on how slowing down a burn will improve accuracy. When the burn takes place files have already been created, I don't see how they could change once they are written to the disk. If they did change there should be some sort of checksum failure and the burning software should fail the burn.

  6. Shankomatic:

When I burn at 2X, I get errors. Lots of 'em. The resultant discs will not play all the way through, even on the most forgiving players. They begin to skip, the skipping becomes more frequent, and eventually the player freezes.

When I burn at 1X, there is no problem, and the discs play perfectly.

So I prefer to burn at 1X, since I am not in a big hurry, and since burning at 2X has resulted in coasters every time for me.

conncarl: Get better media. 100% of the time your problem is poor media. Your burner doesn't have a vaild write strategy for 2x on that media. Obviously the default strategy doesn't work. Firmaware upgrade may help, but probably not.

  8. Gazorgan,

I'm sure you are correct, in that if I found the perfect media, I would be able to burn at 2X.

Unfortunately, I have not found that media after months of trying. Even with the latest F/W update, most 2X and 4X discs only burn at 1X in the Toshiba SDR-5002.

Fortunately, I have found a number of different disc brands that burn very reliably at 1X, and play very well in all of my players. Since, as I have stated earlier, I am not in a hurry, this is not a problem. I'm perfectly content to burn my DVDs at 1X.

Because Nero defaults to 2X and Shrink 3.1 does not allow you to change this on the fly, I would like to be able to change the default burn speed to 1X. That is the information I am looking for if anyone can help.

  9. I'd like to know if there's a way to set the burn speed too. I have a 4X drive, but a pretty slow machine. Burning at 4X is really taxing on my current system...

  10. Just to set the record straight:

When DVDShrink opens the NERO burn engine, it uses the MAX recording speed supported by the media + recorder. In my case, 4X when using 4X media.

I'll agree, a setting within DVDShrink would be nice but it may never happen. I suggest you buy quality media if you intend to use the NERO burn engine within DVDShrink.
