  1. Hi All.

    I am new to this.

I have a load of movies / flims in xvid Avi format.
What is the easest way of converting them from xvid to standard avi format?
I don't care how file the output / converted file will be.

    Thanks For Your Time.

There's nothing inherently non standard with a XviD avi. AVI is a container format, where you can put video and audio in raw or encoded formats. What's your problem with XviD?

  3. I don't have any problem with xvid.
I think xvid is one of the best encoders.

The resign i what a non encoded avi, is that none of my dvd software like the files i have got.

It gets to about 70ish % and then gives up, and gives me error's.

I have tryied my dvd software with non encoded clip / movies, and it works fine.

Your problem is probably that one or more frames in the XviD AVI is bad. This happens very often in files downloaded using P2P networks, most notably KaZaA and clones.
VirtualDub can save raw AVI if you set it to Full Processing Mode and select Uncompressed RGB under Compression. Be prepared for huge AVI files! But I'm pretty sure you'll get error messages from VirtualDub too.
First of all, you ought to scan for and remove bad frames. There are guides for this here at this site.
Then, pick some AVI to DVD conversion guide under Convert.
You say that none of your "DVD software" works - what may those be?

  5. The follow programs i use.

    (1) "Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD 7.0.6 SE".
    (2) "Nero Version 6".
    (3) "ECDC 6".

I mosty use "Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD SE", as it is a very good and smiple program to run, And other thing i like is that you can disable menu's. So that when you put a dvd in your home player you don't get any menus, and the flim just plays.

I suggest you start by reading some of the guides under Convert -> AVI to DVD. Forget about the XviD codec - it doesn't matter in the least. All AVIs (provided you got your system set up properly with all necessary codecs) can be treated the same way. You'll find that none of the applications you've used is mentioned in those guides...
And, scan for bad frames before doing anything else with an AVI file of unknown origin. Guide here.

  8. I have just downloaded and Installed VirtualDub 1.5.10.
I have done a "Scan video stream for errors".
It compleated ok, it did not come up with any error's.

Then try this (I'm pretty sure there is some troublesome frames): Save out a new copy of the avi using Direct Stream Copy for both audio and video. Now, try to encode this new AVI to DVD mpg.
