  1. I've just purchased a Lite-On 8x +/- writer to replace my Pioneer AO4 which up to now i'm very happy with.I had some Datasafe -R discs and these work fine with the Lite-On but i was just wondering what other brands available in the UK work well with it.Thanks in advance and have a happy new year.

  2. Hi there

I've just bought one of these as well so would also like advise on the best media to use. I purchased a test pack but managed to ruin most of the discs by not burning the vids correctly ( for some reason it did n't transfer the .BUP files). I also had to update the firmware before my DVD player would play any discs.

The discs I did burn successfully skipped horribly towards the end of the movie ( Datawrite 2xDVD-RW, Princo 1xDVD-R, and Bulkpaq 2xDVD-R). The drive also refused to even load Bulkpaq 4xDVD-R (red).

The only disc that wrote properly was the blank DVD+RW that came with the unit which DVDinfo says is RICOHJPNW11.

  3. Hi Dave,i personally would'nt use Bulkpaq again.I bought a pack of 50 to use on my Pioneer and over half ended up as coasters. They pixelated badly near the end of the discs. The Datasafe 4x -R discs have worked fine with my Lite-On so far and i've just ordered some Datasafe 4x +R discs which should write at 8x in and 8 speed writer.I will let you know how they worked when i get them.I ordered the discs from here http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/

  4. The bulkpaq orange top have long been a popular budget disc in the UK but as mentioned stay away, they are Princo made s***e. Try http://blankdiscshop.co.uk/ they give media codes next to he discs and are considered one of the best UK media shops for DVD. Look for some Riteks, instead of around 13 quid for 25 bulkpaq, riteks will be about 20 quid for 35 but well worth the extra money, give em a try.

  6. Recieved the discs first thing the next morning which was great and burnt a back up which works fine in my Matsui and Goodmans dvd players.Started to burn at 8x but it slowed down to 4x.Not sure but this could have been down to low space on my hard drive making the buffer kick in a lot.

  7. I've used the bulkPaq orange topped Ritek GO4's here and they work well at 4x in my 811 with HSOE firmware. They'll only do 2x with my Sony 500a with the latest firmware. Most of those are reprint/seconds so that's why some drives can write them well and others can't. My Sony has been very picky about what media it can do full speed writes with, the 811 seems much better so far and the quality is good with media it likes.

  8. Thanks again

Picked up my discs this morning. Whilst they burn at 8x all the videos I have backed up skip near the end of the movie. I have however had complete success at 4X - at last!

I'll probably stick with Datasafe 4xDVD+R but am still tempted to experiment with cheaper media.

  9. There are a lot of good discs out there, but depending on where you live, might depend on their availability.

I've been using TDK +R 4x CDs, bought a 25 spindle at Bestbuy. They are Ricoh discs, surprised. Their -R discs are made by TDK or Ritek.
