  1. Hey all....really perplexed here..

just got a brand spanking new Plextor PX-708A DVD burner for the holidays with DVDXCopy (platinum no less..look at that Luster!!), and i decided to back-up my Animatrix DVD. I have a DVD-R copy in my hands that works in my PC drive. I hurry to my brand new Sony SLV-D300P DVD/ VCR combo deck. Now, the booklet says it doesnt read DVD-VR, but it DOES read BOTH DVD-R + and -. I'm using DVD-R discs. and lo and behold, it does not read the DVDXCopy I made of the Animatrix. I checked all advanced settings, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the dilemma is. I suppose the Sony box is deceiving, however the player is listed on DVD-Rhelp.com as being compatible. It could be that the DVD-R's are generic (...I think they're called K-Hypermedia) ;although if they were bad, wouldn't there be an error burning onto them in the first place? As I said, they play fine in my PC DVD Drive..thanks for responding Any help greatly appreciated. So lost
    Cheers,
    Joe

Dump all that luster!!! (dvdxcopy). No offense but it just plain sucks. Most popular route that I know of you ask?? Dvdshrink and burn with Nero 6 OR Recordnow Max. Better results..and no warning screen at startup. I used to use dvdxcopy express till I was showed the light. Dont feel bad.. shit happens.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

  3. Does changing programs effect the likelihood that the copy will play in the sony? I used Nero 6 and hated the interface, so I now author DVD's and burn with TMPGEnc DVD author, but the player isn't playing either authored OR copied discs.

  5. I've tried 2 different movies (Animatrix and Jacob's Ladder). Again, what I'm asking is, whether I use DVDXCopy or DVDShrink, regardless of which program I choose, does that really make a difference as to whether or not the DVD-R will play?
    Cheers,
    Joe

  7. DVDXCopy works because I can still watch the disc on my PC, just not on the standalone DVD for my TV. Does DVD Shrink encode and copy?

  9. Hi all.
...and about this dvdshrink, is it like dvdxcopy where u get all the menus and special features?
    You can:
    - Backup the whole disc.
    - Make movie-only backups (no menus).
    - Make a compilation from one or more discs (no menus).
    - Split to two discs or more (no menus).
    - Apply different levels of compressions to the same title (to apply "Still Pictures" to the end-credits for example).
    - Select whatever audio/subpicture stream(s) you want to keep/delete.
    etc etc.

In v3.1, coming out in the next 24hours or so, you can even burn if you have Nero installed on your system (it might even work with an expired demo but this still need to be tested).

I use DVDXCopy or DVDShrink, regardless of which program I choose, does that really make a difference as to whether or not the DVD-R will play?
If you use DVDXCopy you're probably burning with it too.
It's burning settings might be what's creating DVDs incompatible with your standalone.
If you'd use DVD Shrink (and even when using DVDXCopy if you do not burn with it), you could choose the software you want to burn with and make sure it is set properly.

  10. I've backed up 10 DVDs with my Plextor 708A and all work fine.
Eg. Terminator 3, 28 days later.

I use AnyDVD to remove the Macrovision etc. and use Pinnacle Instantcopy.

It isn't the quickest but is supposed to give the best quality so it's worth the wait.

I also use the Ritek G04 DVD-r media maybe that could be thw problem.

    Try another Media.

    Hope this helps.
