Hi all! I'm having an issue getting authored DVDs to play on my regular DVD player. If I make a copy of a regular DVD it plays fine, but when I create a DVD with Nero 7 it won't play in my DVD player. I've also used Ashampoo burning studio 8 with the same result. I'm using the same DVD+Rs for both of the burnings. I have 2 Phillips DVD players that the authored DVDs won't play in (says No Disc), and a small portable off brand DVD player that plays them fine. So I know I'm not burning coasters and I know the DVD format is at least partially correct because it plays in one DVD player. I know it's not my discs because a direct copy on the same disc works fine in all players. (DVDShrink for this, which uses the Nero engine to burn...) I've been looking online for information about DVD filesystem formats, etc. but I'm kind of stuck. Any advice?

    Thanks much!

What brand of discs are you burning? All media is not the same. In the USA, only Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden sell quality DVD blanks any more and everything else is garbage.

True, but if a direct copy on the same writable DVD is OK wouldn't that mean that the disc isn't the issue? (I'm asking because I'm not sure) I'm not sure what brand they are, but I can find out.

You're authoring it wrong. Or rather, you're letting inferior software do what it wants. Nero sucks at authoring, and the other unknown software may be just as bad. Author with authorware, such as TDA, and try again.

Use good blank media. Burn speed can be important too (don't burn at "max", but select a smart speed like 4x, 8x or 12x).

Hm Ok I'll give TDA a try, I was looking for some other software but I was just running into bloatware and infinitely confusing options. I didn't think about the speed either, and I think that DVDShrink burns at a lower speed so I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Edit: I downloaded the trial of TDA and wow! Exactly what I was looking for. I'll see if it fixes my issue.

Edit 2: I got it working, somehow. I used TDA to make the DVD and burned slower. Not sure what did it, but all is well. Thanks for the advice!
