  1. i'm using the following procedure:

    1) Capture from my Sony TRV33 via Vegas 4.0e in raw .AVI--13gb, 60 min file, 16 bit audio; no dropped frames

    2) Run the entire file through MainConcept 1.4 using various methods--VBR single pass, VBR 2-pass, CBR single, etc.

every time, the audio is way out of sync--on the raw .AVI it's fine though. also, when i run it through CCE, everything seems perfect...weird. any reasons why MC would through the audio off so bad and CCE doesn't?

i guess it's really not a problem since i could just use CCE instead, but i am curious.

    thanks for any info...sturmie

*EDIT* - the captured .AVI will not load in VirtualDub...gives an error--something to the effect of "cannot open file". any thoughts on this as well?

You need to install a suitable codec, the standard MS one is no good for vdub. The panasonic DV codec in the tools section works for me.

BTW, you avi is NOT RAW avi. It is DV-avi. This is compressed, but only about 5:1.

oic...so, is that 5:1 compressed AVI good enough to keep the quality? or should i be capturing using something that doesn't compress the file at all? just wondering...i a little new to this .

You're not the only one to notice this in the latest release of MCE 1.4, I thought it was just me

It's got that bad, I've given up trying to convert DivX movies back to a format I can use to burn onto DVD, and instead will be investing in a DivX capable DVD player instead, once I decided which one fits my needs

The Yamada seems to fit what I'm looking for, a friend bought one on my recomendation and various reviews I pointed him at, and he says it plays anything he's shoved in it, even real rubbish that his other players baulked at and complained

  5. MC works okay for me in most instances. I capture in MJPEG format from a TV tuner (Hauppauge) and via a Pinnacle DC10+ (also in MJPEG) format, feed the input to MC to create MPEG2 format, edit the file to remove ads and burn to DVD to watch later. No sync problems at all.

The only problem I have had with sync with MC is when I use Adobe Premiere. For some reason editing the MJPEG file in Premiere and then either the builtin MC codec or frameserving to MC externally causes my video to slowly go out of sync

Thats the compression doen by the camera as it stores the digital video on to the tape. You won't improve on it so don't bother trying.
