Need help again, Re: A/V sync issue :(

Hi again,

The Day After was the only DVD that I had this issue with but now I've discovered another film that isn't in sync. When I try to rip Paranormal Activity it's out of sync. I'm not 100% certain but it looks like it's a constant mis-sync.

My usual technique:

1. Re-author with DVD Shrink
2. Load the resulting VOB(s) into AutoGK
3. Use my preferred encoding settings, though obviously in this instance I've tried several variations

Try out the encoded AVI; typically fine, but not in this instance.

EDIT - I forgot to mention that I've already tried adjusted the skew in VirtualDub and I managed to get it "close enough". However, when I save and play back the video it's as if I didn't apply the correction *shrug*

Rip to the HDD with latest DVDFab Decrypter.
Open the vts0x_x.ifo in AutoGK. Not the vobs.

In virtualdub both video and audio must be set to direct copy mode.

And note ... it is typical for video playback in virtualdub or any other version to lose audio sync during playback ... it was not intended for that purpose.

About the second part, in the past a couple others have told me to open the VOBs and not the ifo files *shrug* ... though I'll try it and see what happens.

Sorry, my mistake. I do load the ifo file rather than the VOBs. Also, remember that so far The Day After and Paranormal Activity are the only DVDs to give me this out of sync issue. This would lead me to believe that I've been doing things properly for all the other DVDs that ripped fine. I was even able to resolve the problem with the former film by using FixVTS prior to ripping. Why it worked, I don't know, as I don't even know what it does. But yeah, the latest DVDFab is what I already use and like I said, I do load the ifo files, not the VOBs. So what you recommended is actually what my typically method already is. Unfortunately, it's not working

Since I revisited my last quote, I thought I'd post on this one too. Like I said, I already did use direct copy for both audio and video, so...?
Also, looking at what you said again, I really don't understand. What do you mean by "it was not intended for that purpose"? VirtualDub wasn't intended to play audio and video in sync?

It means virtualdub isn't a player or optimized to play back videos . If it's not in sync in virtualdub, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. It might or might not be in sync in a real player. ie. don't use vdub to ascertain if anything is in sync

Ah, okay. Any recommendations as to which apps are better for determining whether the A/V is in sync or not?
