  2. Belboz - Try doing a high bit XVCD capture with CBR. I realize there are advantages to VBR but this may help your cutting. I use both VBR and CBR and find the quality to be excellent using either. Use Stinky's tool to make the adjustments. It may solve your problems by moving to CBR and I don't think you'll see a difference in quality.

You are right about the bit rate dropping to the floor with VBR captures. Until there is a way to set a minimum VBR in MMC 7.1 this will contunue to happen.

I have one problem with VCD Cutter (the latest version) and maybe you could help me. When ever I cut a video from the center or any part other than the beginning the video has a jerky playback. If I cut the video from the first frame of the clip to the center then it's fine. If I cut anywhere other than the first frame the video plays jerky, what could be causing this to happen. I am using the Radeon and a bit rate of 2.09 which should work ok.

Hopefully someone could shed some light on this matter.

I get the same problem with vcdcutter. I stopped using it for that reason.

    Belboz,
I agree with your assessment of MyFlix. Problem is, it doesn't cut MPEG-2 (SVCD).

Well after trying em all I have found my vcd/xvcd cutting tool...... Myflix.

My comments on the other tools.

Tmpgenc. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time I get audio lagging behind the video.

Chopper. Seems to cut mpegs pretty easily, but is a pain to get just the right point for your cuts, and it doesn't join em.

Vcdcutter. Usually works very well. Easy to set cut points with. Always seems to back up a few frames from where I tell it to cut. And many times when I do a bunch of cuts and have them put into one mpeg I have a problem with the resulting mpeg where different mpeg players (Windows Media Player, AVI player, etc) have problems playing through where the cuts were merged.

M1 & M2 Edit. I could never get these things to even access my mpegs stored on my file server. Interface seems odd too.

Myflix (even though it is from the authors of m1 and m2 edit) works great. No problem to find my cut points. The clip list at the bottom shows the cut points you have set. You can actually go in and change the frame numbers of the cutpoints manually if you want by typing in new frame numbers. Very easy to work with. Every mpeg I have cut multiple pieces out of and joined into a new mpeg has played perfect for me afterwards. Program is fast too.

I've tried Myflix too, and received sync problems. I haven't found one application that worked well.
