  1. I have a very odd *.M2V file, which has a format of 640x272, aspect ratio 2.35:1 with 23.97 fps and the according AC3 audio file as *.WAV. With respect to the DVD authoring tools I use (TMPEG DVD Author and DVD lab) this is a non-standard stream that cannot be used on DVD. So how can I get the file on DVD without too much hassle?

You can use dvdpatcher and change the headers and then after you authored the vobs change back to the original settings and then burn.

BUT it would probably look strange on your tv....

There is no such thing as a "non-standard" DVD.

You are going to have to re-encode your video to 720x480 (or 720x576) and then author it.

  4. Thanks for your help. It has helped to get DVD lab working, TMPEG DVD Author not. I will further work on the file, just curious if a viewable outcome will result.

What will happen to the aspect ratio when I re-encode it to 720x576?

You should try to keep the same aspect ratio for the picture. Add 135 pixel high black borders to the top and bottom, then resize it to 720x576. The AR should stay the same.
