how big can the mpeg files be so they fit on a 700mb cd when burned as vcd/svcd

datawise, I believe around 800 meg. time wise, rule of thumb is:
VCD - 70 minutes (possibly 80_
SVCD - 40/45 minutes -
On a 700MB/80minute CD-R -- approx. 795MB for VCD/SVCD. Leave 5MB for the other misc. files creatred during authoring. Of course that assumes no over-burning.

Or if you use 99min cdr you can burn almost exactly 1,000mbs. vcd std will do about 81mins of video on an 800mb cdr. If you lower the bitrates you will get more .
