i have recently purchased a liteon LDW411S, my first burner, so far i
have had nothing but trouble trying to burn on the -dvdr's that i bought.
can people who have this dvd burner please tell me what dvdr's are
compatible so i can purchase the correct dvd's and stop wasting my
money like i have done so far. the only successful burn for my dvd player
so far has been with the disk provided which has no brand name or type,
except it was +dvdr, which surprises me as i thought u were supposed to
use -dvdr disks for use with ur dvd player.
anyway please help me on my journey which has so far been painful.
i've read all the topics on the LDW411S from ur site, they have been very
helpful, but not yet solved my problem.
thanks for ur help

Hi,
Did you download and installed the latest firmware for your model.
I had same problem and installed the firmware and its ok now.
You can use any type of Blank DVD in your model. I have the same one.
Cheers

I upgraded the firmware before trying anything--and have been using Fuji DVD+R/W with no problems. Since I'm new at it, I wanted to go R/W so there would be fewer coasters.

Hi ydiesel02
I but it this DVD writer too.....is my first too.. and I feel and have it the same problem and question too....
Thats my point of view.....(and experience)
I read dont update firmware if Your writer is working well....
I dont update, and try some Disc, looking for the one.....I use some Melody +R +RW -R and -RW all work well.... (may be the -RW give me some problems, I burn a copy of one of my DVDs and then I cant "ripped")
I use some Pengo +R 2.4X , and work fine.. very good (burned 5, 5 good)
I use one princo "generic" dosnt work....
I use one without brand....dosnt work
So Has I read... If You update , You will burn this kind of Discs...
Yesterday I buy it a Sony +R and I will try later today....
So in my opinion, If the Sony works (they are 4X, the Melody and Pengo are 2.4X in +R ) I will stay with the firmware
If dont I will update and see what happen..
I hope be helpful
Good look -
The drive has problems working with many types of media but once you updated...it should be okay...I update mine already so I haven't get much problem unless i kept using cheap DVDr that I got over the net...not all are cheap but I bought the cheap kind...thats why...so..cheer...you got a good burner...

thanks for ur input people, i could burn a dvd with the disk they gave
me, which was a dvd+r and it worked fine. so i'm thinking that maybe
i need to buy dvd+r disks and just forget about the dvd-r disks that i
have. the ones i have are cheap but still $2 per disk. and they work fine
in a friends dvd burner, looks like he gets an early christmas present
the dvd's i've tried are
futura 4x dvd-r and
shintaro 1x dvd-r
so i dont recommend using them as they dont work.
i also updated my firmware, the only thing was it was the one that i
already had, but i did it anyway just incase there was an error. -
Okay ... check my profile and see what I have ... for my daughter's Christmas ... She recieved ... from me.
1. MS WinXP Home Edition Upgrade ... she did have WIN ME
2. another 256 MB stick of SDRAM
3. Panasonic DVD-S35S Progressive-Scan DVD-Video Player with DVD- RAM abilities.
4. Maxtor HD ATA 133 40 GB ... she did have only one 60 GB HD.
and #5 ... the Lite-On LDW-411S DVD Burner.
Earlier today ... she called me saying she was confused on how to rip "Pirates of the Carribean" ... so instead of going over to her home ... 10 min away.
I walked her through on the phone ... but instead of using DVDShrink ... I explained how to use Nero Recode 2 ... current version. With Slysoft AnyDVD v3.0.0.7 installed.
I explained over the phone how to disable the 300 meg coming attractions feature.
She got a 70% compression ... not bad.
And ... she was leary about putting a DVD-R disk in ... thinking it might mess up and waste a blank disk.
But I had confidence ... and while we talked on the phone ... it finished burning on a Memorex DVD-R 4x ... from Best Buy for $50 for a 50 Pack. LOL ... I gave her a cakepack of 5 RiteK GO3 2X ... and 5 Memorex 4X.
No DVD+R in the pack. Oh ... the firmware is FSOG not FSOF [I did that for her]
And of course ... Deep analyse was used and she popped it out ... [I think she ejected it] and tried it.
She was happy and she said ... "this is the first one I've made with a menu".
Not sure if she played it on her computer or on her Apex dvd player ... its the $40 dvd player at Walmart. She doesn't have the Panasonic connected up yet.
The Apex AD 1010 wont play Maxell DVD+R ... but will play Maxell DVD+RW but not DVD+R. Burned with my Sony 500A
But she did play it ... and right off the bat ... the DVD displayed the "disabled video" picture ... so I guess the ... coming attractions videos play first before the Movie does.
She told me ... she would have to explain to her friends ... why it is displaying that picture instead of the movie.
As for me ... I use screenshots from the movies I rip to replace the "disabled" portions of a DVD. I use PowerDvd for capturing my screenshots.
I hope this is helpful ...
her computer uses the MSI 6330 MOBO Bios 3.5
CPU ... AMD XP 1500 ... 512 MB of SDRAM. -
I have the same burner, I will say this, with FSOG it gives more love to +R/RW media. According to the people at club.cdrfreak.com, there was a problem with burning -RW media, if I remember right, or it could have been a hallucenation (I drink too much OK). But for best compatibility with -R media go with FSOF, a little bit more lovin'.
Blah, blah, blah
