Well after debating for many weeks I have narrowed my hardware down to ReplayTV and a DVD burner. After finding a 40 gig PVR designed to be a PVR for $150, I think it will do the job nicely. I've found software that will enable me to capture the movies via lan and encode them to proper mpeg2 files DVD authoring. What do you guys think about this idea v. an analog capture card/hard drive/sound card for my computer. It just makes so much sense to get a machine to do what it was designed to do. I only hate that you have to pay $300 for lifetime of machine or $13 a month subscription. I'll let you guys know what kind of results I am getting.
Original hardware included:
Compro 9bit analog decoder
7.1 Channel Sound Card
80 GB hard drive
NEC DVDRW +/- 4x
Yet for the same price I can buy the ReplayTV and NEC burner.
I know about the show sharing and commercial skip on the 4500 and 5000 Replay TVs. They took off these features on the 5504 to get them out of trouble. Has anyone tried using the 5504 model with DVarchive java software to capture from the unit via lan?
