I haven't updated the firmware on my LDW-401s since I purchased it in Sept. Although, I am not having any problems with it at this time, and only being able to burn DVD+R is fine for me.

I was just wondering if anyone was having any kind of problems with there 401s after any firmware updates mostly the latest one?

    TIA

  3. Yes, if you want to be able to burn to newer disks as they come out. New firmware comes out for a few reasons, problems with the old firmware, adding new media, improving writting and playback of current media. It's like getting your burner a tuneup. Lite-on is known for updating firmware pretty good, so not updating your firmware makes NO sence at all.

I updated the firmware on my new Lite-on 811s the same day I installed it. Why use old firmware if there is something better available? The only time it makes any since to keep old firmware is when older firmware allowed burning a certain disk at a better speed, such as one version of the Ritek's on some of the Pioneer burners, but that's not a factor with the Lite-On burners.
