  1. I ripped a dvd movie w/ DVDEncryptor in file mode as usual.
But I get errors when burning.

    try burning at 1X

Also, is the burner the master or the slave -> should be set as master

Turn off/remove screen savers and other junk

Defrag the drive which is housing the data that you are trying to burn

Move the data off your C drive to another drive that does not have your OS on it.

  3. I believe the DVD burner is the master. How can I confirm that w/in W2K?

  4. To be honest, I have never looked in 2000 (or any OS for that matter) to see if I could find master/slave settings.

When you slapped the burner in, did you set it as the master (pin selection) and set the other device as the slave?

I think part of your problem though is burning at 2.4x. Are you using 1x media? If so, that's more than likely your answer (although the incorrect master/slave settings may also be a/the culprit).

  5. Yes it is set to Master. I see it when booting up. I've burned with Instant Copy before w/o lowering the speed or just left on automatic. I don't know when this problem started. Last night I set the burn speed to "slow". I'm assuming that's 1x. This morning I found it with the same error message. Man this is really annoying. I wish I know what's causing this.
If you have any other suggestions, please post it. I'm very tempted to reinstall the OS. That would definitely be last resort cause it's a major pain to restore everything.

  6. I reread the original post and something hit me. Try this, download dvdshrink latest version and then isoshrink and try backing up the movie and see what happens (might just want to use an RW).

    Have you tried other media?

  7. Ok will try. Is ISO Shrink part of DVD Shrink?
I've burn many DVDs before. In fact, Pinnacle Expression still burns fine, with the same media.
Although I'm experiencing real bad result with Expression when burning Mpg2 files. It creates motion blips. But that's another issue. One at a time. But like I said, it burns fine though. So I know it's not the burner or media.

  8. you never know, it may be the same issue, just in a different way. Lets say that with the other software it is total bad burns, however, with express. it does go through, however the media is bad.

Where do you burn the data and have you defragged that particular drive recently? If you remove the drive and the media as being the issue, you are left with the software and where it is pulling from.

The reason I say try isoshrink and dvdshrink is that it takes the human equation out (and I am familiar with both softwares). When it is burning the result, you can look at the buffered amount to see if it goes down to zero or something. Isoshrink works with dvdshrink. It automates the setting up and burning of the movie without you having to do anything. For lack of a bett word, it does batch processing of what the human would do to make the video burnable and then also burns it.

If it fails with this software, my suggestions WOULD be burner, media, hard drive.

FYI, isoshrink and dvdshrink basically turn the backup process free (no cost applications are needed).

  9. The movie files reside on a secondary drive. In fact, it sits on the SATA drive. Both C & D were recently defragged. Last time I checked, Windows determined it to be 0% defragged. I'm quite sure it's not the media because I've successfully copied and created many DVDs w/ the same spindle (both -R & -RW) w/ Instant Copy and Expression.
The problem I have w/ Expression only occurs with mpg2 files captured with my ATI AIW card. No prob w/ .avi files.

  10. I couldn't find ISO Shrink. Do you have a link to it?

    Try this -

have instant copy write to HD, then use pdi2iso to change the pdi files to a ISO file, then burn with Decrypter.

Using this method you can also download Daemon Tools from this site and mount the ISO and check the DVD for quality and structure before you burn it.

Are you sure your disc is big enough to hold the DVD? Failure to write to a certain address -

    ------w/ Instant Copy-----
An error occured while writing track 1 at position 0.
Extended information: #1Device: Sony DVD RW DW-U10A (E
ILLEGAL REQUEST: INVALID ADDRESS FOR WRITE
What kind of media are you using? Load the blank disc into Decrypter and see how big it is or you can use one of the other DVD info tools on this site.

AND make sure your re-encoded DVD is small enough to fit on the blank disc.

I don't think burning at 2.4x is the problem, although I don't see why you cannot burn at 4x. Like the one post said, are you sure you are not using 1x media? could be the solution you are looking for.

  12. I'm not sure I understand.
Instant Copy won't copy if it's protected. So I use DVD Decrypter in file mode. But DVD Decrypter doesn't burn.

I believe the media I'm using are Princo. I've been using them pretty successfully w/ Expression and Instant Copy. I made sure that the movie is under 4.3 G after DVD Shrink. Actually, it's more like 4G.

Btw, I un/reinstalled Instant CD/DVD and updated from Pinnacle's support site. Burn was a success this time. The only problem is that all the chapters are preselected by default and can't be unchecked. Why's that? Is there a setting I've overlooked?

I woulf first say check your media. If your error said something about "Invalid Address for Write" then it is about witing to the Media, whether bad or good. Now it might not be the media. I know sometimes when I would burn an ISO with DVD Decrypter and I would open Instant Copy 7, IC7 would try to control my DVD Burner and make DVD Decrypter choke and spit out almost that exact same error and give me a coaster.

Also if the Nero errors were caused by 'file.cpp' then that just means Nero crashed on you. If it doesnt crash on a normal basis then it just seems like you opened a program that tried to take control of the burner so it just crashed Nero.

Im not saying these are your problems, Im just telling you I have had similar problems and those have been the causes.

You need to download Instant Copy hidden settings or make the registry edits.

    www.mrbass.org/instantcopy

You should also burn on different media...Princo = trash...IMO.

  15. TDK has had some deals with US stores lately, 2X

Also, first time I read the title I read: Getting Euros burning - with the $ to Euro exchange rate, that would be cool! Of course Baldrick's country refuses to switch...
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  16. Regarding Instant Copy's hidden settings, I didn't have to do that the first time I installed Instant CD/DVD. In fact I didn't even know about it.

I've been using the Princo spindle since I started burning DVDs. How bout Maxells or KHypermedia? I saw them at the store.

Unless you like to just throw away money, dont buy those.

Buy Riteks, BeAll's, or Taiyo Yuden (sometimes FujiFilm).

You can get them in an assortment of places but most people here go to www.rimo.com I beileve. I used to go to www.meritline.com but have found out they sell Grabe B media, not Grade A, so I ditched them for Rimo.

  18. I just burn w/ Instant Copy since it works. I do like compressing with DVD Shrink because it seems faster and displays more info about each title. Thanks all for the help.

Btw, I couldn't get to www.rimo.com. It seems to forward to http://www.rimo.co.id/ but couldn't load. Is that an Indonesian site?
