  1. I have 2 dvd players that I use to test DVDs I download and burn (Using Video_TS Folders),one is a standalone Apex dvd player I bought from Wal-Mart the other is a Panasonic TV/VCR/DVD combo model PV-DM2093,the TV states it can play DVD-R (depending on recording conditions) what ever that means,ok downloaded my first movie, burned it onto a DVD+R,using trial NERO 6 plus a compliation I downloaded from one of the messages here, and works fine, but now I keep getting messages that the DVD player doesnt play my DVD disks anymore,I have burned movies on a DVD-R,DVD+R & DVD+RW with absolutely no luck at all, sometimes it stops before even playing other times it gives me the above mentioned error, but it will play in the APEX dvd player,my burner is a LITE-ON DVD Dual ReWriter: LDW-411S & Im using Memorex DVD-R & DVD+R DVDs,can anyone offer some kind of tips or suggestions that may help me solve my problem,I find it hard to believe that the TV played the first DVD+R I created, but now wont play anything

    Thanks
    Steve

I would suspect your problem is a combination of Memorex DVD-R (made by CMC, which are CRAP) and the fact that you did not mention whether your player(s) will play DVD +R. Memorex DVD +R is usually made by RICOH, which is pretty good media. Maybe one player won't read DVD-R (on crappy media) and your other player won't read DVD +R on any media.
Check the "DVD Players" list to the left and the "DVD Media" list also.

I have also read that some Memorex DVD +R disks are now being made by CMC, which would also make the +R disks crap, as well.

  8. I wanna know how long it takes to download a DVD.
I'm on cable and just run a speed test. It's getting 2.557Mbps. If that DVD was 4.4G I could download it in about 4 hours. (give or take a few minutes). I sometimes see as much as 525KB/s download rate. But... I'm not going to download no stupid movie. 4 hours of pleasure and 20 years hard labor. (or something like that).

My first experience online was with a Intel 486-SX33 on AOL @ 1,200 baud. Everything was text based and all the downloads available were DOS programs. 'We've come a long way baby', for sure.

    Here's a screenshot of my toast.net/performance speed test. It's about a 40k 'download'.

Don't confuse megabytes with megabits per second. BITS and far less and slower than BYTES. I would take all day, maybe two days or more, to grab a full DVD online. Even with you being connected to an unfettered T1/T3/OC82/whatever server.

Looks to me like it takes 6 hours on an unloaded T1

edit: bytes are exactly 8 times slower than bits

  11. 2.557 million bits per second connection. divided by 8 = .319625 million bytes per second rate. (319KB/s)

4.4G movie (backup copy of course) divided by .319625 MB/s = 13766 seconds. or 3.8 hours. See I wasn't so far off. I said 4 hours.

In a real world download I see a lot of 229KB/s (instead of that 319KB/s above) so if would probably take around 5.3 hours to do.

But the way internet traffic is sometimes it might take as long as 9.6 hours (127KB/s). I see that rate sometimes too.

So I suppose it would depend on internet traffic. But if that download was on good server it would take less than 10 hours I'd say anyway.

I know what a bit is. Thats why I typed it that way. (Mbps) instead of (MB/s).

    Later.
