  1. I have the NEC-1300A burner. It has worked great for weeks now. All of a sudden XP can't see it, or should I say has problems with the drivers.

Under "MY Computer" I have no DVD drives listed. If I go to the Device Manager my drive is listed but says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" under divice status.

I have done some searching and found this at MS web site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060&Product=winxp. I have tried it with no luck. The drive will show up under MY Computer but I can't access it. I get a error.

    Any ideals from anyone?

    Thanks

I didn't follow your ms link but this is what I do when a device stops working:

You can skip step one if you think it isn't the problem.

    1) check physical connections ide and power connectors.
    2) In the device manager remove the device and reboot the computer.

XP should now find the device and reinstall the drivers. If the ones on the hd drive are really corrupted then you may need to manually reinstall them from your XP disc.

  3. I have tried that but with no luck. Each time the drive is found it has the same problem. I have tried a Asus DVD only drive and it has the same problem.

  4. Did you try to remove the IDE channel in the device manager. The one that the Writer is connected to and reboot?

  5. Problem fixed. Finally had to go back and restore to 2 weeks ago. I have been playing with some photo album programs and some of them have built in burners. It seems one of them I uninstalled screwed up the reg file as metioned in the Microsoft link I posted.

Just took alot of work to get stuff back to where it should be. Guess lesson learned. Set a restore point before installing or uninstalling anything just to be safe.

    Thanks for the help
