  1. Got an old 512K Apex AD-1100W with the Nerd-out BIOS update (still w/ Macrovision). This sucker will play VCD/SVCD/XVCD/XSVCD/DVD -- Everything I need! Unfortunately, It's gotten to the point where the NO DISC error is starting to appear when trying to play DVD's. I've removed the clip and re-aligned the ribbon cable, but I have to open it up every 2 weeks and re-position the lens assempbly in order to get it to read DVD's. This is just getting too frustrating.

What inexpensive (approx. $50-$60US) DVD player can be found that will play the variety of media and file types that this good ole boy did?
Will the Newly re-released Apex AD-1100W's?
    The Apex 1110W's?
    The Norcent models (which)?
    Any others?

I would appreciate recommendations, as there are so many models and variables with the search results. Please comment and let me know if a firmware mod would be required. Don't really care if it is reqion Free or Macrovision disabled as all I want is to play my CD-R's and DVD's (no recording).

    Thanks !!!

  3. LordSmurf,

Thanks. I had heard about the Cyberhome, but was not really sure if it was as versatile as the AD-1100W.

How long have you had yours? I've read about some issues with the motor not holding up due to the higher speeds/heat generation of VCD/SVCD playback (as opposed to slower speed DVD). I will be using it for approx 85% SVCD/VCD and 15% DVD playback Do you use it heavily for VCD/SVCD? Any issues?

At $40.00 -- this certainly sounds like a great value !!

    Thanks!
