hai i'm a newbie
i have a lot of (self-made) mpeg-movies (holiday).
I want to edit these movies (ie: merge, cut, rotate etc).
Which program would you recommend?
I am on the apple-platform.
Should i transform the movies into another format?
thanks for your help

Hi rpschade,
I've seen mention of a program called Womble that can successfully edit mpeg's - though I don't know if it can be used on an Apple. I don't know where you can get it from though - just seen it mentioned. There is another reliable one, but can't rememeber the name.
I've also seen regular mention that editing mpeg's (excluding the above 2 apps) is tricky and often leads to a/v synch problems. Common consensus seems to be edit in AVI and then encode finished article to mpeg.
Hope that helps... Good luck. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

I have moved this to the Mac video forum as you are likely to get more help here.

MPEGs are hard to work with because of the audio codec and the way they are multiplexed. Somebody will tell you the programs to use in a couple of hours (and hopefully they will have gotten some sleep)

I'm not aware of any programs that will allow you to edit the mpeg file directly. One way would be to demux the mpeg into streams. Convert the video to .mov and the audio to .aiff. Then import both of them into FInal Cut Pro. It allows you to edit, cut, crop, rotate, etc. You can then export back to .mov and author as an mpeg again.

alright i understand that i will not get any further with movies in the mpeg format. Are there any suggestions about which program i should use to convert the files. What format is avi exactly?
Final cut pro is a very expensive program, are there less expensive options?rogier schade -
