I have a video file that I want to open in VirtualDub to rip the audio, then I will go on to convert to VCD format in TMPGEnc. When I open the video file in VirtualDub, I get the following error:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

    Which decompressor do I need?

    Many thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it's divx 5 but you can test your file with Gspot.

    Thanks for your reply.

I installed GSpot - it's a great program. You were right, it is DivX 5. I thought I had the codec installed, but obviously not!

Now, which is the best MP3 decoder?

    Many thanks.
